Newt did some very good things while serving in congress. He helped to create a conservative coalition and helped to a certain degree to win a majority in congress. He supported good programs such as tax reductions and welfare reform. He helped to balance the budget.
I am impressed by this record. But Newt also allowed himself to be consistently outmaneuvered and outsmarted by Clinton and the MSM. His vanity was his weak point and he soon lost the speakership and Clinton was elected to a second term.
I admire Newt's intelligence but I consider him someone who will pretend to be for anything that is expedient and will help to further his career. I don't think he cares about the American people or conservative principles.

02/22/1989 – He cosponsored the Global Warming Prevention Act of 1989.
10/22/1991 – He voted for an amendment that would create a National Police
Corps.
03/–/1993 – He was “passionately in favor” of sending $1.6 Billion in
foreign aid to Russia.
11/19/1993 – He voted for the NAFTA Implementation Act.
11/27/1994 – He supported the GATT Treaty giving sovereignty to the U.N.
Yes Perhaps we should consider his record while in Congress. And this is only part 1.
