My dad thought Craftsman hand tools were the best for home use until Sears bought K-Mart

As odd as it may seem, it was the other way around, K-Mart bought Sears.

>>>Thanks for the tip. I know some folks who used to like Lands End and will appreciate having a better catalog.

DTC’s jeans are as advertised... :)

Here’s a little-known fact for ya, Sammy: At one time (early 1950s), Sears sold it’s own brand of automobilie in it’s stores, called the “Sears Allstate.” (It was really a rebadged Henry J produced by the Kaiser-Fraser automobile company.)

Now a days, Sears carry sub standard , overpriced stuff. If you want to over price, atleast provide quality.

Agree. My son-in-law gave me a Sears Craftsman mobile tool chest last Christmas. I was disappointed in the quality, but kept it and mentioned nothing negative as I didn't want to offend him. Flimsy sheet metal, bad welds and construction as compared to my other non-Craftsman tool chests. Further, it cost more than my existing tool chests but came with no lining or accessories and had fewer drawers and cheap slide rails. Lining was optional and high-priced. I would never buy a Sears tool chest.

And you used to be able to buy ‘put-it-together-yourself’ houses from the Montgomery Wards catalog.

But then it wouldn't be overpriced.

I went through two Craftsman 100’ steel tape measures a year for 15 years and only had to buy two of them; the first purchase and once more when I lost one.

I think I see the problem.

The place I used to draw my pay slammed the door on me today
And told me just to stay away and no come back again
I went back home to bring the news my woman saw that I had the blues
But she said the babies need new shoes and I’m a worried man

Well there is no way that I can see that I can feed my family
Cause I don’t own no money tree and very little lam
But I said mama don’t you cry I’ll get a job up fore the day’s gone by
I don’t know where though and that is why I’m a worried man

Worried man worried man...
Worried man worried man...

Here is an irony. There is a chain that started out in my hometown area as a grocery store that has expanded to become a store like Target, Wal-Mart and K-Mart. This chain is called Meijer. Its founder is Hendrik Meijer and his son Fred, just died a couple weeks ago.

I thought the Fred Meyer stores on the west coast were more jewelry stores instead of the grocery or discount department store. I have a Fred Meyer Jewelry store in my mall.

This one is more about a very bad merger than the economy. K-Mart was going down and Sears decided to jump on their sinking boat. It was a bad idea 7 years ago when they announced it, and nothing that’s happened since then made it any better.

Sears began their decline when they eliminated the candy counter.
