I don't want to be insulting and I feel your probably genuine. We are basically on the same side and frustrated with all this, but you cannot have it both ways.
Republicans and Democrats spend millions to discredit candidates on all levels that are outside the mainstream or status quo if you will.
If you know the system and politicians are corrupt, then why do you try so hard to defend a system and or candidates you admit are crooked?
I ask this question to many folks that challenge my Ross Perot vote or Pat Buchanan vote.

I know it will be a shock to my FRiends, but I have still problems with Newt because of some of the things he promoted when he was Speaker. I will post a link that tells about how he undermined the revolution he started with his Contract for America. I wish someone would explain why he changed direction back in 1995 and give me some confidence that he has changed his direction back to the Ronald Reagan Conservatism he once promoted. I have great worries about Newt being the nominee because what happened to him in the 90s. Your post makes a little more confident in the idea that he has learned much along the way. However, there is much more that he needs to do. I have been concerned that all it would take would be one "Macaca Moment" and Newt's candidacy would drop like a lead balloon. Newt needs to prove that he can fight the media barrage and win.
Newt has to make the case to the electorate that he has learned from his mistakes and evolved world class comprehension of America's needs and how to fix them. If perception continues that Newt has learned nothing, I would be worrying.

I read it, it’s a thesis, but it’s a very selective history told solely from the furthest conservative wing of the party’s point-of-view, summarizing what seem to be a few bad moments that went on over 4 years. Read Tony Blankley’s article for comparison, linked below. He does mention Newt had to balance the demands of the Northeastern liberal Republicans to keep his coalition together, sometimes upsetting conservatives.

I see the author of the article you linked has a book out promoting that same thesis of Republicans becoming the party of big government. But as we saw in 2006, when the Democrats took control, and then again when Obama was elected, they became the party of bigger and bigger government.
I don’t think Newt is a slash-and-burn the federal government kind of conservative. I see that more as the libertarian position, which Ron Paul puts forward. As I understand it, Newt’s budgets in Congress were balanced, so I think he showed he is fiscally responsible with whatever he does. I think he is a problem-solver first and foremost.
I see him reshaping the federal government, not dismantling it, and not having it do stupid stuff like trying to take over entire sectors of the economy, hamstringing businesses with regulations, distributing government cheese and so forth. Some efforts like turning the tide of militant Islam across the world are something the federal government should make a big effort in, something along the lines of the cold war against the Soviet Union where options other than military action are explored.
I don’t think he’s proposing plans to shut down big segments of the federal government like the Department of Education, but has plans to reform them to make them less top-down bureaucracies. Sometimes the states will have more options, sometimes the citizens will have more options. I don’t think his campaign is lacking when it comes to good ideas and solutions.
Yes, Newt has stumbled in the pot holes, but he has not broke his leg. Instead, he has shaken the pain off and walked forward. He has the constitution of a warrior. For that reason, over all these years, Newt has been a hero and a fellow patriot for me. I hope he carries that assurance to the rest of America who is so poisoned by the hate of the Left.

You are so obviously an anti-Perry poster. Since I’ve been posting about Perry since before he got in and harangued at length by the best on FR for making my case with links, information and threads, your re-hashing of those old lies is late and so obviously campaign misinformation.
BTW — I do live in Texas and before that, Arizona — been a border state gal most of my life. I am very informed on the issues and the facts, as well as the lies (you vote for Deborah Medina?).
Perry is running to be our president and I'm concerned about his affiliations and questionable policies that appear as pro-big government.
Everything I've said maybe a rehash, but it is important to keep it fresh in everyones mind. Memories are short in American politics.
Folks can make their own decisions as to what to believe, what to research further. It is our duty as citizens to help vet these candidates. The media sure as hell won't.
Al Gore ran for president in 1988. Rick Perry championed Al's cause here in Texas. It's wrong of me to mention that?

You can call all these topics lies, deceptions, rehash if you like, that is your right. All the items I bring puts into question Rick Perry's judgment on the issues.
Is he truly a conservative? Does he still secretly hold affinity toward socialistic policy or does Rick Perry ebb and flow with the political climate to remain in office?
