...I thought Huntsman would be my ideal candidate. And indeed, his tax reform proposals--modeled on Bowles-Simpson--are dead-on....
On foreign policy, Huntsman also favors a more realist correction to neocon excess, and would build on Obama's remarkable successes.... And his sanity on climate change--certainty that it is man-made but real skepticism about how to tackle it--is, in my view, the conservative position. And, almost alone among the Republicans, he acknowledges that gay people exist and that our committed relationships merit recognition in the law.
So why not Huntsman? The sad truth is: he simply hasn't connected with the voters, generates little enthusiasm, and has run a mediocre campaign....
Which brings me to Ron Paul. Let me immediately say I do not support many of his nuttier policy proposals. I am not a doctrinaire libertarian. Paul's campaign for greater oversight of the Fed is great, but abolition of it is utopian and dangerous.... There are times when he is rightly described as a crank....
But all this is why a conservative like me is for Obama. What we are talking about here is who to support in a primary dominated by extremes, resentment, absence of ideas and Obama-hatred.
And I see in Paul none of the resentment that burns in Gingrich or the fakeness that defines Romney or the fascistic strains in Perry's buffoonery.... He has now gone through two primary elections without compromising an inch of his character or his philosophy.... He is, in other words, a decent fellow, and that's an adjective I don't use lightly. We need more decency among Republicans.
The constant refrain on Fox News that this man has "zero chance" of being the nominee is a propagandistic lie....

LOL.

Oh, c'mon. None of this should bother you, because Ron Paul never read any of this newsletter than had his name and photo it, that contained the first-person stories about his wife and son, the first-person stories about his congressional colleagues, the first-person medical advice from a physician, the first-person investment advice, the first-person advice on how to avoid government wiretaps on your militia phones, the charges that Jimmy Carter and George Bush were part of a government Trilateralist New World Order Conspiracy, that the Massad was responsible for the first World Trade Center bombing, saying that if New York City was named after blacks it should be called "Zooville," that you could get AIDs from kissing somebody because it's transmitted through the skin, or any of that normal stuff.
Because nobody in the news media's going to ambush him asking things about how he gave information about how to buy unregistered guns or how to kill youth and disposed of guns after wiping them off - or about how he made a million a year letting nuts writing this stuff under his name and photo for two decades, without apology.
I didn't know you were campaigning for Obama. I'm sorry. I was operating on a different premise. Because goodness knows, there's no way in the world anybody could be elected defending all of the sound bites, media interviews, debate points and stuff that comes from these newsletters and no doubt the crap he said in all of those interviews with the various truther radio and anti-Semite broadcasters. Not to mention all of the neo-Nazi and KKK donations and rallies he accepted in 2008.
The guy's past is a cesspool. And he's nuts. We'll just have to disagree.
I live in the Bronx, NY - I agree with most of what he has said or was written.
Those closest tot his mess see it for what it is.
