GOP: Gingrich, Perry fail to qualify for Virginia primary

RICHMOND, Va. — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Gov. Rick Perry have failed to qualify for Virginia's March 6 Republican primary, but former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Rep. Ron Paul will be on the ballot.

The Republican Party of Virginia announced late Friday and early Saturday that Gingrich and Perry fell short of the 10,000 signatures of registered voters required for a candidate's name to be on the primary ballot. Romney and Paul met that threshold.

State GOP spokesman Garren Shipley said volunteers spent Friday validating petitions that the four candidates submitted by the Thursday 5 p.m. deadline to the State Board of Elections.

..."We will closely review the facts and law to determine whether an appeal or challenge is warranted," the statement added. "Governor Perry has the utmost respect for the strong place Virginia holds in our nation's economic and military strength and in American history. He will continue to work hard to build strong support in Virginia and earn the trust of conservative-minded voters there."....

Well the biggest loser is the Republican party of Virginia. Their donations may dry up and rightly so. I certainly won’t be sending them any money. The powers that be think we hate Obama so bad that we will just accept whomever they ram down our throat.

In a few minutes Rove is coming on Fox to discuss the Virginia Republican Party ballot situation.

Few people on FR like Rove, but he understands electoral mechanics, and maybe he’ll talk about whether it’s possible for the Virginia Republican party to retroactively change its ballot rules.

How sad that a conservative state like Virginia has essentially maneuvered themselves into a position where the true voices of their voters may not be heard on Super Tuesday.

What makes McDonnell a “RINO?”

Acually McDonnell and Perry were close friends but not sure if they still are since our Virginia governor is drooling over being selected as the VP candidate.

Handing Romney all 50 Virginia delegates is the most any potential VP candidate has done for Romney yet.

Prince Romney is on his way to the crowning.

I guess the Republican Party of Virginia doesn’t understand that they are punishing the voters and not just the candidates.

I’m sure Karl Rove is delighted with this outcome.

If Virginia has a write in provision you should go and vote for the candidate of your choice. If they don’t have a write in provision you should and go and cast a “no vote” or a “blank ballot”. Most machines and procedures will allow this. You will count in the total voting but not for either candidates.

Tell me again about the differences between Romney and OTurd. Oturd won his senate seat by having his adversaries disqualified.

It has been clear since the last election that Romney and Jeb Bush were the preferred candidates of the Republican leadership just as the Hillary Clinton and the African Arab were the hand picked Democrat favorites. The Global Syndicates will do what it takes to keep the American Leadership under their hands. When you can get a Muslim acting, Muslim looking unknown person with 3 Social Security numbers and a seriously questionable birth record elected as President, then why would one expect competition like Newt, Rick or Sarah to ever survive the process?

Ron Paul is a nut.

As is ANYONE who supports him

Sorry, I know that's not very "charitable" towards my fellow Freepers, but as an Independent, Conservative, Nam Vet, who loves his country (and once voluntarily put it all on the line) and will defend our Republic against all foes (from without and WITHIN--and I consider Moonbat Paul a "Foe") I calls them as I sees them!''

Great video. I don’t know how anyone could watch that and think any other candidate is right for our times.

I don't think this means much, doesn't the Va GOP have a strong convention system which has the final say for assigning delegates. Isn't the primary more of a “beauty contest”?

That’s the main thing I don’t trust. The Virginia RINO party.
