RICHMOND, Va. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Gov. Rick Perry have failed to qualify for Virginia's March 6 Republican primary, but former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Rep. Ron Paul will be on the ballot.
The Republican Party of Virginia announced late Friday and early Saturday that Gingrich and Perry fell short of the 10,000 signatures of registered voters required for a candidate's name to be on the primary ballot. Romney and Paul met that threshold.
State GOP spokesman Garren Shipley said volunteers spent Friday validating petitions that the four candidates submitted by the Thursday 5 p.m. deadline to the State Board of Elections.
..."We will closely review the facts and law to determine whether an appeal or challenge is warranted," the statement added. "Governor Perry has the utmost respect for the strong place Virginia holds in our nation's economic and military strength and in American history. He will continue to work hard to build strong support in Virginia and earn the trust of conservative-minded voters there."....

Man, we warned you.
Chicago, thug style tactics.
Maybe you should have stood up for Cain. Now the alligator eats you. :)
So you are for Mitt or Paul?
I’m a Honkey for Herman!
Man, so much for this ‘frontrunner’. Maybe he should spare a few bucks to get on the ballot...
If they are the only ones on the ballot, then I guess those are my choices, eh? :)
Umm.. Herman is yesterdays papers, and never had a record of service.
FWIW, the requirements in Virginia are unreasonable, imho, and should be challenged.
That’s the Va ballot.
Its big news, but is it really news?
At least Cain knows where to prioritize his spending.
1. “Get on the ballot”
Narrows the field some.
If you can’t run in your own home state, that speaks volumes.
IMHO the big news here is that Gingrich burned.
The invincible Newtenizer!
Bachman,Santorum. Huntsman are non starts..
Heck we all know Perry can’t win /s
Umm... Herb aint even in the running.
Well sure. He’s not on the ballot in VA either.
I think you automatically lose ‘frontrunner status’, when you aren’t on the ballot in your homestate.
I’m pretty sure there’s a rule somewhere.
Good for Paul IMHO. I thought the big deal with Newt was that he was supposed to have the organization to pull this off?
I bet Cain would have gotten on the ballot easily.
Ron Paul is a nut.
So now it is a record of service and not just a record?
Lets all just get a grip here. Nothing keeps an organized write-in from occurring. But to your point of a record of service, that puts you right in the crosshairs of the career politician only has the creds to be elected. Is that not what has gotten us to where we find ourselves now?
Look at the awful way they are now defunding Social Security with this stupid payroll tax holiday gimmick that will eventually send those funds to the General Fund and scrap SS altogether replaced with another welfare system.
Geez! Record of service my arsche! With exception to a small group, vote them all out, mine included. No lawyers and no politicians.
If Gingrich cannot get a retroactive rule change - maybe opening the window again to allow more time to get signatures - then the Gingrich campaign in VA will have to encourage supporters to vote for Ron Paul (who cannot win), just to deprive Romney of delegates.
Just not prepared to find Libya on the map.
That is my question? What’s up. Yesterday I was reading that Newt qualified, now he doesn’t.
This is MSNBC so I don’t know what to believe.
If this is true, the people in Va. might as well stay home.
Well, chortle in your glee. Fine form that. You sound like a good fit for the Paul campaign.
I am a Gov. Perry supporter.
