Yes, Virginia, there are more than four Republican presidential candidates. But they won't all appear on your primary ballot.
Thursday was the deadline for candidates to file for the Old Dominion's March 6 primary, and only four made the cut: Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Rick Perry and Ron Paul. But Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman and Rick Santorum didn't make it, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
The culprit? Virginia's high bar to get on the ballot: signatures from at least 10,000 registered voters, with 400 from each of the state's 11 congressional districts. (Compare that with New Hampshire's primary, which requires only a pulse and a check for $1,000.)
The state Republican Party still must certify the petitions, and the order of names on the ballot will be set next week.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has failed to qualify for Virginia’s March 6 Republican presidential primary, according to the Republican Party of Virginia.
Volunteers at state GOP headquarters in Richmond still were assessing Friday at 11:20 p.m. whether former House Speaker Newt Gingrich had amassed the required 10,000 signatures of registered voters to appear on the ballot.
At issue was whether Gingrich who lives in McLean and leads among Virginia’s GOP primary voters in a new poll will get a chance to compete with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the state’s primary.

I don’t know if this is before what you found or after...
But it says Perry didn’t make it.
“Making it” refers to the petition filing deadline.
Never heard of this blog, and it’s citing unnamed sources.
Sounds credible to me. How many would’ve heard about a blog based in Virginia about Virginian local events? If Newt was still collecting signatures this week and barely made it 10% over 10,000, I can’t believe those signatures were checked carefully enough to avoid verification problems.
banking on a past court ruling in Va and I hope I am right.
...and will bet you 10 bucks Newt made it...
“However and theres always a however former State Senator Marty Williams back in 2007 was accused of having a handler circulate petitions to get him on the ballot that was not legally able to do so. The court ruled that, though the petitioner was not legally entitled to circulate the petitions, the enfranchisement of those who did sign the petitions trumped the lack of qualifications the petition gatherer held.” posted on fr
Ergo, even if this report is right, Gingrich will have the names needed to qualify for the Virginia ballot.
If these reports are true
