Gingrich bets on S. Carolina ("raised $10 million in this quarter")

The last time Newt Gingrich was in Columbia, about 10 peopled showed up to hear him speak at the Lizard's Thicket on Assembly Street. He was at 5 percent in the polls, had lost nearly all of his top S.C. consultants and his campaign was $1.1 million in debt. But Friday, he spoke to about 300 people at Blue Marlin restaurant in the Vista as the frontrunner in South Carolina. He has 12 paid staffers in the state, and - according to reports - he has raised $10 million in this quarter alone. And he's betting it all on South Carolina. "If I win South Carolina, I believe I will be the nominee," Gingrich told the crowd. Gingrich has a sizable lead in South Carolina, according to the latest poll this week from Clemson University. He trails in the other two early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire. But Gingrich says he doesn't need to win those two states, just finish well enough to give him momentum heading into South Carolina's GOP presidential primary on Jan. 21.

There is ahuge amount of Newt-negativism surging through the threads here at FR.

Some of these posters are spredading disinformation and out-right lies.

I suspect a Romnybot infestation.

Gingrich and Romney ... these are our choices? Please Lord give us a candidate that is worthy of our support.

I believe, for the following reasons, that the liberals prefer Mitt Romney as our candidate: 1.) because he is obviously the most liberal candidate running and should he win this would not be as painful of a defeat as losing to a real conservative. 2.) because he is the candidate that the conservative base least wants to vote for which will certainly translate into diminished Republican voter turnout to at least some extent. 3.) they wish to drag our primary battles out for as long as possible to keep us divided and to cause us to waste our time and money on an unnecessary primary battle so as to leave us weakened for the general election war. I do believe that they will be voting for him in our primary elections for these reasons. This will be their operation Chaos. Because of this and because of Mitt Romney’s deep pockets And because of his support from the GOP establishment, there’s a very strong possibility that Romney will be our nominee.

I believe that God would only give us Newt only if he wanted to punish us.

If Mitt Romney is the Republican nominee, then expect Sarah Palin to come and run!

What you said was horrible!

Newt Gringrich allied himself with Ronald Reagan to build the Reagan Coalition, the Religious Right, and the Republican majority (together the Reagan Revolution) which directly led the downfall of the Soviet Union, the Contract with America, government reforms, less government, tax cuts, a balanced budget, and the great, long-standing Reagan economy.

Under a Republican president, they [the Republican Congress] added over $3 trillion to the federal deficit, shunned conservative policy in favor of Beltway influence-peddling, and so damaged the GOP brand that we...lost the majority Gingrich had worked years to forge,..How much should I really care that Newt’s fabulous colleagues think his reemergence would be a disaster for Republicans? Lest these characters forget,...2010 was not a merit promotion; they [the Republicans] were the only alternative in town.

Does he sound like a scourge from God? Well, does he?

Best speech I’ve heard from Newt in a while. Starts speaking around 4:01 in the video. Worth listening to to the end. Gets better and better especially the questions and answers!

PLEASE take the time (or at least bookmark) Newt's address to this Town Hall Meeting....and as they say, keep an open mind.

WOW!!!

While I have been a luke warm supporter of Newt's since Cain dropped out, boy, after watching this just ending now (a rerun on CSPAN as I was channel surfing and ran accross it) I am 90% sold.

There is soooo much I liked to try and repeat here, but I can HONESTLY say this: THERE IS Noooooo other candidate out there (or for that matter, any other prominent Republican Pol, with the exception of my Gal Sarah) who dares take it to Dear Leader with such a no holds barred approach.

Case in point: Have anyone heard any other candidate (or Republican) refer to O'Bummer as a "SAUL ALINSKI RADICAL?" Newt did and did not mince words.

Won't use the much overblown "Must See/Watch"....but I highly recommend it

The RNC has been very quiet. I wonder why. Has Willard failed to deliver the goods? Something is up and it will be historic. I believe the battle for the ticket will go right into the convention. There is a good possibility we will see a brokered convention with the “none of the above” group of candidates dropped for someone new and completely unexpected. Governor Christy? Senator Marco Rubio? Sarah Palin?

Don’t count Sarah out yet. It looks like Sarah Palin could throw her hat into the race after all. People are starting to realize that when you compare Sarah Palin to the other candidates, she has more going for her than they realized. In my opinion, she would deliver the goods and make mince meat out of Obama. And the word I am getting is that people are starting to reconsider Sarah Palin.
