Mayor Jean Quan adrift on securing Port of Oakland
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 12/23/11 | Andrew S. Ross

Here's what we know about the Port of Oakland:

It's the fifth-biggest container port in the United States.

It supports an estimated 73,000 regional jobs.

It indirectly provides millions in tax revenue to the city of Oakland.

The mayor of that city has essentially washed her hands of any responsibility for its well-being.

The last fact we learn from Oakland Mayor Jean Quan, who told The Chronicle this week that: (A) It's "absolutely" impossible to prevent shutdowns like those organized by the Occupy movement; and (B) Should the port want the Oakland police to give it a genuine college try anyway - "if the port wants to pay for that, we can do that."

Her remarks are staggering. They tell those of a mind to do more mischief, "We won't stop you." They tell companies shipping billions of dollars of goods in and out of the United States that the Port of Oakland is, maybe, not a good place to do business. And they tell the port that if it wants the city to step up to the plate, it's going to have pay protection money.

"F- ridiculous," was how a local executive described the remarks. "What are we, a Third World country?"

Occupy Oakland demonstrators shut down the Port of Oakland on Dec. 12. Some companies have reportedly said they may take their business elsewhere after Mayor Jean Quan said the port would have to pay for its own policing and four city councilwomen blocked an attempt to present a directive to keep the port open by any legal means necessary.

"What are we, a Third World country?"

Kind of obvious, isn't it?

Yeah, she really is that stupid.

Before she was mayor, she made headlines for promoting teaching Ebonics in public schools.

Woman, you are either unable, or unwilling, to serve the people of Oakland.

Resign. Now.

for those of you not out here and not following it, she got elected on a fluke. they changed the election process to a system where you pick a first second and third choice. she wasnt anyones first choice, but was a lot of peoples second and third choice so she got in.

bizarre voting process and guaranteed to elect a loser, which it has. she actually gave city workers the day off to march with Occupy Oakland. the police chief asked her if she was nuts, that they were going to have city workers on both sides of the confrontation line.

Remember, our state re-elected Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown as its governor....after, and still suffering, the worst state economy in history thanks to liberal tax-and-spend, borrow-and-spend, and gross malfeasance.

The state has gotten what it voted for in the last election. More of the same. That is the reason this person is where she is...continuing the trail of destruction and incompetence, and typical liberal “don’t bother me with my problems”.

Jean As a Student Organizer

From her website:

“My husband, Floyd, and I met as student activists at UC Berkeley in the middle of the Civil Rights movements of the 1960s, and we helped found Asian American Studies and initiate programs like OASES and Asian Health Services that continue to serve Oakland communities today. I also worked in West Oakland setting up tutorial programs for students and classes for parents who needed help to pass the test to get jobs at the Main Post Office.”

What do we expect from a mayor who not only share the philosophy but also the methods with the Occupiers? Most liberals share their philosophy, but I think not the methods.

The Navy left the Bay Area..they Army left N.CA and many business’s left the Bay area because of the communist unions.
They don’t deserve the port revenues. Re-route it to Mexico.

She is Commie from a Communist country, it’s that simple. She believes in Government and sympathizes with the OWS morons, I’ve heard her on the radio talking about it.

She wants Marxism. She is another part of the problem, not the solution.
