Donald Trump is officially a man without a party. The real estate mogul whose flirtation with the 2012 presidential race has never really ended despite announcing seven months ago he would not seek the Republican nomination has been signaling he wants to find other ways onto a presidential ticket.
Trump took another step in that direction on Thursday, switching his party affiliation from Republican to unaffiliated, according to a source close to the reality television star.
According to the source, he did so because he is disgusted with the way Republicans are handling matters in Washington, including the recent payroll tax cut deal. But the move also sets Trump up for a potential third-party run for president a possibility he began talking about almost as soon as he told his fans in May he wasnt running.
Trump has sought to reach out to the group, Americans Elect, an online, independent presidential nominating organization that has already made it on the ballot in several states, including California.
Couple Donald Trumps name recognition with his extraordinary wealth and Americans Elect truly becomes a viable force in determining who the next president will be, Trumps top political adviser Michael Cohen told ABC News. One thing is for certain, Donald Trump is adamant that Barack Obama must be defeated in 2012 under any circumstances.
This is not the first time Trump has changed his party registration. He registered as a Republican in the late 1980′s, then switched to the Democratic Party in 2001 only to return to the GOP in 2009. Trump hinted at an independent bid for president as recently as last week.

I know I'm having an orgasm now thinking of Trump and a third party. LOL! /s
According to what I've read and could find, Johnson was so popular in New Mexico for his fiscal conservatism (Nicknamed "Governor Veto") that he was finally turned out of office due to .... TERM LIMITS. His re-elect numbers were pretty high, still carries a very favorable rating with New Mexico voters.
Among his accomplishments in office were cutting the state budget 10% his first 6 months in office by using his Veto power on more than half the bills presented to him, and consistently reducing taxes to spur growth. That's just not a fiscally conservative record any other Republican running for office can lay claim to, and would likely have a great deal of appeal to moderates/independents who are concerned about Government spending.
The Libertarian party is in progress of heavily recruiting Johnson to run on their ticket. While Johnson was a non-factor in the Republican Polls (which may have alot to do with him being blocked out of the Debates which he performed poorly in, along with Thaddeus McCotter of Michigan) Johnson's running as a Libertarian -- potentially with "The Donald" on the same ticket may be enough to hand Obama the Presidency if the overall Presidential race is close enough, and a Johnson/Trump (or Trump/Johnson) ticket can peel off a few percentage points of the vote.
Among all the other major blunders the Republican Debate Committee has made, denying Johnson a place on stage for the debates may come back to bite them in the ass as much as allowing that nutjob Ron Paul to participate in the debates did.
Not saying I'm endorsing a Trump/Johnson ticket because I'm not. Obama must be beaten at all costs, and chances are good that won't happen with Trump/Johnson (or Johnson/Trump) running as independents, or together on the same ticket in next year's Presidential race.
Posting as food for thought, don't flame me, just putting what I've been reading out there for consideration.
The whole thing was a fraud, probably engineered in consultation with Obama’s handlers. Why do you think all those left wing talk show hosts helped him get the message out?
Trump is a crony capitalist who relies on political connections to pull off his real estate deals. Almost all of his political donations were to Democrats, plus a few key RINOs.
The trouble is, even a good many Freepers were fooled by his fun and games. So the average voter may well be fooled if he runs third party and says he is a conservative.
Ross Perot gave the election to Clinton. The first step into the abyss....
Egomaniac for sure and for certain. Wouldn’t even hold my nose to vote for him - just would not. Lying, cheating, low life SOB. Self-serving, obnoxious, bankrupting, T. Boone, J.R Ewing clone. All a bunch of con artists Mr.Haney’s.
Absolutely. He's a Democrat -- always has been, always will be.
“Elliot Ackerman, chief operating officer of Americans Elect.... Will Marshall, the president of the Progressive Policy Institute, the centrist Democratic research group; Christine Todd Whitman, the former governor of New Jersey and one of a dwindling band of moderate Republicans; Mark McKinnon, the strategist who guided Mr. Bushs message in 2000 and 2004 but backed Mr. Obama in 2008 and now says his interest is anything that disrupts the current system, and Doug Schoen, a pollster who worked for Bill Clinton in the 1990s but is now frequently critical of Democrats.”
LOL~
It that a Ferbie on Trumps head?
“He was a trojan horse fraud from the start”
He can’t be a trojan horse. The present GOP establishment has brought us an ever-expanding government, and Obama himself.
If we don’t eject the present leadership of the GOP - and clean the party apparatus of status-quo elitists, we are destined for much worse than Obama.
Imagine a Marxist/Leninist who didn’t require a teleprompter. Imagine someone with some actual leadership capability and experience.
Obama is too stupid to be the tyrant he would like to be.
The next guy, through political ineptitude resulting in a lack of effective opposition from the GOP might be the death of us all.
After what the GOP did to him—I don’t Blame him. Find a 3rd Party Trump —Might I suggest the Constitution Party? or the Conservative Party? They exist in NY. The GOP will torch anyone who disobeys the RNC. If you doubt this—ask Sarah Palin. The Debate they ditched—has soured Trump—Smile all you Trump haters but be ready to feel his wrath!
You still support Trump? This man has NEVER been a conservative, he doesn’t even know what it is. He is being used by Obama to get him reelected. I understand the GOP is bad, but to set a precedent of being used by a moron like Trump is terrible. Don’t you have any respect for the people of the United States?
This guy is a serious jerk, I don’t know why som conservatives think he is so great.
Trump doesn’t give a hoot about the constitution.
Trump is about Trump.
FUDT!
I don’t take sucker bets...
*puke*
I just threw up in my mouth a little...
If the pubbies lose in ‘12, they have no one to blame but themselves.
Most like however, they’ll learn precisely the wrong lesson. I’d be willing to bet that if Obama is re-elected, the GOP will purge the Tea Party elements, blaming the Tea Party for the loss.
I’m not a gambling man, btw.
Not all; some would prefer to stay and fight than quit and run.
I agree. The GOP has been screwing us over for a long time and our country will continue its decline with Romney or Obama as president. It is just a matter of how fast it crashes. It is also obvious that the general public still does not understand how big a mess our country is in. If they did, they all would be behind the candidate who has the best chance of making some big changes, and we all would have one target right now, Obama.
That may be the single most confused, stupid and poorly constructed post I’ve seen on FR in a while. I am not sure a single syllable of it is correct frankly. Then again, it takes a very confused and muddled mind to claim to be a conservative and to support Trump.
If you think the forces against Trump are the same forces - or are motivated by the same fears - that are against Palin - your understanding of the body politic is simply non existent.
Kind of on the lines of my thinking as well. Trump isn’t my cup of tea but then neither is the Establishment GOP. If our efforts fail to get Palin into the race, I’m writing in her name. I’d bet a dollar to a doughnut the GOP nominee will be Romney. They’ve lost me.
Romney = Socialized Medicine
Newt = Believe in man made global warming
Both candidates said they believe in small government? Did either of them ever actually downsize government? Slowing the rate of increase of the growth of government is NOT downsizing government. It's still EXPANDIND and INCREASING the size.
They are the Trojan Horses
