Whatever. Portugal told the USA that they’re not interested in sending an old man back to the USA to spend the rest of his life in prison. They’re a sovereign country and they have the right to do what they want within their borders and I respect their rights the same way I want them to respect ours when we eventually do something they don’t like.

The guy is a murderer and if not for the racial sensitivity at the time he was initially convicted, it's likely he would have received the death penalty and been sent to prison rather than a "farm"..where he should have been sent in the beginning thus eliminating any possibility of his escape.
