Apparently, the current defense forces for the Falklands consists of four Typhoons, a destroyer and a 500-man detachment from the British Army. Plus, you can figure that there's probably one nuke submarine lurking in the area.

There are no carrier forces. Nor is there a long-range bomber force.

While it's more than was available to defend the islands in 1982, I wonder if it's enough to dissuade a politically arrogant and militarily stupid Argentina.

I think the Brits would probably rely on USAF refueling them en route to Falklands, as they were rumored to have done during recent Libya bombing. However, distance involved much greater.Brits have an ability to inflict great pain and destruction upon Argentina via missiles, as they did in Libya. I just don't think Argentina could take repeated hits as Libya did.

However, the Argentine military/government seems to have a large supply of "loose screws." But one would hope the people themselves would prevent such attacks on the Falklands. Their leaders never even repatriated the dead soldiers from the last invasion. Even when Brits took great pains to ID their fallen and return them to Argentina. A disgraceful act on the part of the junta.

As you say, they are"...politically arrogant and militarily stupid." Perhaps they feel Britain bogged down in ME? Syria watch?
