(Reuters) - A direct-mail solicitation for Ron Paul's political and investment newsletters two decades ago warned of a "coming race war in our big cities" and of a "federal-homosexual cover-up" to play down the impact of AIDS.
The eight-page letter, which appears to carry Paul's signature at the end, also warns that the U.S. government's redesign of currency to include different colors - a move aimed at thwarting counterfeiters - actually was part of a plot to allow the government to track Americans using the "new money."
The letter urges readers to subscribe to Paul's newsletters so that he could "tell you how you can save yourself and your family" from an overbearing government.
The letter's details emerge at a time when Paul, now a contender for the Republican nomination for president, is under fire over reports that his newsletters contained racist, anti-homosexual and anti-Israel rants.
Reports of the newsletters' contents have Paul's campaign scrambling to deny that he wrote the inflammatory articles.
Among other things, the articles called the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. a "world-class philanderer," criticized the U.S. holiday bearing King's name as "Hate Whitey Day," and said that AIDS sufferers "enjoy the attention and pity that comes with being sick."
As Paul made a campaign stop in Manchester, Iowa, on Thursday, his Iowa chairman, Drew Ivers, repeated Paul's assertions that he did not write the articles that resurfaced this week in a report in the Weekly Standard magazine.

“Paul is an embarrassment to the Republican party, he is not a conservative..”
Wow..on a day like today I’d say he looks real good as a conservative. Just sayin’ that things that might or might not have been true back some 20 or so years ago are one thing..caving and hanging the Tea Party republicans out to dry is another.
Number one..Ron Paul is polling something like 25% of non white voters. Obama’s crowd has to hate that.
Number two..I think people are sick of this kinda lowball politics. I don’t think it’s gonna hurt him..might help him after what Palin and Cain went through.
Number three..WHOEVER is the candidate..if not Paul..had better be lookin’ to Paul supporters for votes. If any fair minded person listens to one of his speeches or goes to one of his rallies..you get the whole picture, not a sixty second wonder reply or cherry-picked sound bite.
The whole mess begs for a third party. Obama and Rove strove to do one thing today..break the Tea Party. I don’t think their supporters are going to lay down..I think at some point the struggle between Rove Republicans and Tea Party Republicans is going to come to a head. Unfortunately for the country..it will probably mean an Obama win.
If it comes down to a fiscally sane surrender monkey and the Manchurian candidate I'm going with the surrender monkey.
But we remember, we still got a good chance to get a good candidate before we reach that point.
"It's on! Race War! Race War! Race War! Race war's on everybody! It's going down! S--t is going down!"
I don't know what is supposed to be "inflamatory" or untrue.
We have already had race based battles in big cities for decades now....Watts/Detroit/Miami/LA/Cincinati/Katrina...usually just minority eruptions though even before that there was the occasional white heavy handed purge...Tulsa/Rosewood
And each election is largely determined by an anti white/anti Christian voting block of at least 70% and how many whites or kumbaya Christians are peeled off.
That does not mean all minorities would join on one side and all whites on another....not likely
But civil conflict would have an element of that...no question...the geographical demographics would demand it
Civil wars tend to get back to the basics of killing and division regardless of the hopeful naivete of many here.
I unlike most here have witnessed first hand civil strife with an element of race in Haiti and Sierra Leone...in those locales being white carried a big risk...exponential risk..which is why I left the latter...they had lots more toys to kill with than poorly armed and more hungry Haitians
but...any brown or black freeper here on the forum is welcome to come to my semi farm in semi rural middle Tennessee to seek sanctuary
be sure you know the code word..fore you saunter up the long drive..and bring ammo
I know Buckley purged Birchers from NR, but when exactly did he purge “neo-Confederates”? And who were some of them?
Since I don’t recall Jesse Helms or Strom Thurmond ever getting the boot I’m wondering who it is that you have in mind.
Pauls problem is that he BLAMED ISRAEL for 911. HUMMMMMM, The sane people KNOW it was the Islamofascist.
and the rest of you who dont think that there is a race war possibly in our future.....you have to answer to these clowns
Whats wrong with Birchers?
Buckley’s dead...he leaves behind son Chris Buckley to vote for Obama and a nephew, Brent Bozell, who just disassociate with National Review because NR is calling Mittens a conservative.
it might be a good idea to take a long hard look at the Birchers....

Excellent post.
At the time Buckley split with them Birchers were calling Eisenhower a communist dupe IIRC.
Brent Bozell does seem to be last remnant of the family with any sense. Wm Buckely himself possessed some glaring faults, tossing his friends under the bus when it was socially convenient being maybe the worst.
I Like Ike...
that being said he was not the most conservative president.
I liked Bill Buckley but like you said he was not perfect. but who really ticks me off is Bill’s son Chris...who went over to the Dark Side(no racial slur intended). Though Chris’ book and subsequent movie, Thank You For Smoking...was hilarious.
nice post...precisely
something they never get
