Paul's age gap (GOP operative: Paul’s younger supporters won’t turn out)
Politico ^ | 12/21/2011 | BEN SMITH

Aaron Blake spotted a remarkable figure in some polling out of Iowa today: "Ron Paul wins more than 50 percent of 18-29 and 30-44 year olds, but less than 12% of 45-64 and 65+."

A Republican operative who is not working for Paul emails to make the case that this is why Paul's poll numbers are overstated: Republican primaries and caucuses have never seen young voters show up and pick the winner.

And:

Caucus is people standing up & being seen where they stand...12 percent of over 45 may even be high...no neighbor wants people to know they're with this guy. Obama had enough mainline/older voter support as well...Paul just doesn't.

Paul’s voters back him because it’s cool and hip. When it comes to actual work, like all youth, they slink away.

Younger voters turned out for Jesse Ventura. It’s just that they have to perceive that the differences are real.

Even if they do show up, the point about the caucus mechanics still holds. The older voters are not going to let themselves be led around by the “Ron Paul” youngsters.

“Caucus is people standing up & being seen where they stand.”

I thought the GOP did secret ballots?

The old folks, conservative or not, get Social Security checks, Medicare benefits and generally see the Federal government as a big need to their standard of living. Hence they aren’t too keen to support a candidate who openly talks of abolishing most of it.

Young folks i.e. the ones who are going to have to PAY for all of it, see it somewhat differently.

They’ll turn out, but they’ll be voting for Obama.

Latest Poll (today, We Ask America), show’s Paul’s support among registered Republicans is HIGHEST from 35 to 54, and lowest among the 18-24 year olds... The PPP poll you are referencing included independents, which biased the numbers towards the younger crossover voters.

In a Primary, yes. But in a caucus, who you vote for is very public, at least in the room.

“Young folks i.e. the ones who are going to have to PAY for all of it, see it somewhat differently.”

After listening to the war drums at Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Egypt, Libya, North Korea, Kosovo, Somalia and Venezuela they also could be worried about who is going to fight and pay for wars.

These polls are being taken from potential primary voters who say they will register, or claim to have. But the deadline is up in 3 days. These polls are all hot air, no substance. Most of them are probably lying.

Nope.

It is because older voters support (1) endless wars in the Middle East which (2) create mountains of debt which (3) they are not going to fight or pay for because they are retired on near retirement.

If you are 18 to 29, you know people who are fighting for silly things like “dumbocracy” and “women’s rights” in Afghanistan and Iraq. You will also have the privilege of paying for it as a debt peon to Red China.

The +45 age group has sat idly by while over 11 million illegal aliens have invaded the United States. They have also invited millions of immigrants from the Third World to settle in the United States.

That’s on top of exporting our industrial base to China and saddling Gen X’ers and Millennials with a crushing national debt. For first time in American history, the Baby Boomers are the generation that will leave behind a world that is worse than the one they inherited.

According to the latest National Journal Heartland Monitor poll, 29 percent of White Gen X’ers and 39 percent of White Millennials support Obama.

41 percent of White Seniors support Obama. Go figure. The elderly live off the government.

The Baby Boomers are being put on notice that the neocon days of (1) invade the world, (2) invite the world, (3) in hock to the world are over.
