A U.S. Border Patrol agent fired his service weapon at several alleged drug smugglers who were throwing rocks at him and another agent.
The incident happened at around 7 p.m. Monday near the B&M International Bridge in Brownsville, said Border Patrol spokeswoman Rosalinda Huey.
The agents were patrolling when they encountered several people who appeared to be carrying bundles of marijuana, authorities said.
When the agents confronted the individuals, they began throwing rocks at the agents, Huey said.
One of our agents, in defense of himself and his partner, fired his service-issued rifle at the subjects. None of our agents were injured, Huey said.
It is unknown if anyone in the group of alleged smugglers was injured.
A helicopter was sent to the area to help search for the alleged smugglers, but none were located.
The agents recovered more than 13 pounds of marijuana that were left behind, Huey said.
Brownsville City Manager Charlie Cabler said the city had received inquiries involving gunshots fired Monday night. Authorities believe callers were referring to the same incident, although some reports said it sounded like guns were being fired between the B&M bridge and the Gateway International Bridge.
Cabler said to his knowledge no injuries were reported.
The Border Patrol said an investigation into the incident continues.

The only question is “How much prison time will he get?”
Holder will tell us they were throwing Christmas candies to the agents and the bundles being carried were boxes of toys for the orphanage kids in Mexico.
Why not send a few hundred rounds at them?
Those who escape alive will take back the message:
Those crazy gringos are trying to blow us away!
The real question is how much time would YOU get if you shot at somebody throwing rocks at you? Don’t get me wrong, the only fault I find with the agent is I don’t see anything about a bunch of successufully killed smugglers, but I still don’t like the “God-like cops get one set of rules, sub-human citizens live by another” thing.
If your life was in danger you wouldn't get any time.
Of course not. Justified shooters are never unjustly charged. We all know that.

What proof do you have that these smugglers were U.S. citizens?
Thank You.
Who said the were US citizens?
Right, just like we all know that no law enforcement officer has ever gone to jail for shooting a person justified or not.
I never denied that. I only pointed out that there is a different set of laws for God, I mean cops, and the rest of us. For every cop who went to jail for a shooting, 10,000,000,000,000 have shot unarmed citizens because said citizen, “made a threatenting move in the direction of his pants.”
Well, unlike you I don't know every single law in every jurisdiction of this country, but generally LEOs can only use deadly force when their lives or the life of another are in jeopardy. This is the same for non LEO's. If you shoot somebody and you can articulate that you had no other alternaive, then most likey you are going to be exonerated. Which happends most of the time in this country.

Do you have source?
You got that right.
happends=happens
Unlike you, I read posts here on FR where innocent shooters are prosecuted all the time. Do you have a source for your claims?

Before you respond and try to play word games, unless they are U.S. citizens, I don’t care how the police treat them.
Your reading comprehension is really quite lacking. Note, I already said that I DO NOT CARE that the cop did some shooting, and I already said my only problme with the cop was THAT HE DID NOT KILL THEM ALL. So far, so good? My problem is this: If YOU had shot at Mexican drug dealers who were throwing rocks at you, you’d get a 10,000 year sentence from Holder’s justice department just for upsetting the drug dealers, plus 10,000 years for actually pulling the trigger.
Sorry, your derisive attitude towards the police threw me off. I now understand your point and agree with it if not your attitude.
Okay, I apologize for the attitude. The cops in this case should not have been charged, so it’s good that thus far they are not, but it makes my blood boil to know that you’d already be sitting in jail with a $10,000,000 bond on your head.
