The ratings that were sea going and only had men were not opened up until the mid 70's to women. I don't consider medical and other shore base special duties real Navy. WWII was a different story.

But do to the "feminist" movement women started appearing on ships. Tenders first, like the Puget Sound which we renamed the Pubic Mound. By the mid to late 80's women started appearing on warships. Big mistake.
