VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- A Navy tradition has caught up with the repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell" rule on gays serving openly in the U.S. military. The Navy said two women shared the coveted "first kiss" Wednesday when the USS Oak Hill returned home to its Virginia base. Marissa Gaeta of Pacerville, Calif., descended from the ship and shared a quick kiss with her partner, Citlalic (SEET-lah-leek) Snell of Los Angeles. The crowd screamed and waved Navy flags around them. Both women are fire controlmen in the Navy. They met at training school and have been dating for two years. Naval officials said it was the first time on record that a same-sex couple was chosen to kiss first upon a ship's return.

Truth is never obsolete, no matter how unpopular it may be.
I’m with you. I guess all those Waves were really men. And that’s very disconserting since me and one of them did a lot of kissing.
Once again, we are witnessing tjhe collapse of a once great world power - by national suicide called “Political Correctness”
Or an Admiral's Mast. If it were two men, would that make it a Rear Admiral's mast?
Your post said there were no women in the Navy until the mid 70’s. That’s wrong. I’m not talking about serving aboard ship. That came later.
What I meant by the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy comment is there were gays serving before this policy and most of us “didn’t ask” and most of them “didn’t tell”.
Now this is something that will thrill the American people. Didn’t polls show that 75 percent favor this?
The thought of the sensitivity sessions makes me cringe!
It will be soon (if not already) a thought crime to disparage homosexual activity. It is not (and will probably never be) a crime in the military to disparage heterosexual activity.
Now the military will be "upside down" weighted against heterosexuals (white male) in general. Unfortunately, these are the achiever class.
Look for a more mediocre military as a result.
GROAN! LOL
Political correctness endorsed repeatedly by the American people through poor election choices
Clearly as a nation we are swirling around the toilet bowl faster.
“Your post said there were no women in the Navy until the mid 70s. “
Got me confused with someone else. :)
I said women don’t belong on combatant vessels, and none were there in my time 77-81.
And I said queer women don’t belong in the Navy. I do realize queers have always been in all branches of the military.
We agree, don’t ask don’t tell, official or unofficial is the best plan.
It's all so confusing!! HA!!!
“Its funny; if theyre two hot young women with lots of hair and a fine set of haunches, men are more than happy to watch them kiss.”
Too broad a brush there, Lady.
I’m a male lesbian.
You are getting confused perhaps with the opening up of the ROTC programs in '73. Heck...there were Female FLAG offers in '72.
Oh yeah? Take a look at the responses.
“A fine set of haunches”?
Bingo
My son, a 25 year Navy Captain, got out this past summer, two reasons, tired of obama as CIC and didn't want to put up with the coming crap because of the newly accepted queers in the service.
We had one in '59 that made a move on a straight guy and he got a blanket party and after he got out of sick bay, he was on his way back to civilian life.
Never saw another open one in my remaining couple of years {not saying there weren't a couple in the closet} but in the late 50s and early 60s there was no tolerance for fags, especially in the military.
And then came the 60s and the bleeding hearts and the whining and crying began, and it's now starting to be recognized for the damage that it really has caused in every walk of life.
