BANGUI US special forces have set up a base in the Central African Republic as part of their regional hunt for fighters from the Ugandan-born Lord's Resistance Army group, military sources said Monday.
"The deployment of this contingent, the size of which is unknown, was carried out very discreetly with Ugandan military aircraft," a Central African military official said on condition of anonymity.
The US elite troops set up a base in Obo and are expected to coordinate their efforts with local government forces and Ugandan soldiers.
US President Barack Obama in October announced he was sending 100 special forces soldiers to Kampala to help Uganda track down LRA chief and international fugitive Joseph Kony, who has wreaked havoc over four nations for more than two decades.

Obo is in the South East corner.
Prayers.
And Congress declared war and authorized the deployment of US forces for this fight when?
Is the US military now just a private force to be used whenever and wherever the President wants to dispatch them?
Why do you suppose they chose Obo? Any thoughts?
Since when is the LRA a threat to our national security? Pull our troops out of there. NO MORE NATION BUILDING OR MEDDLING!!
According to the only source I've seen we've had men in country since November 9. They've been in my prayers frequently since then.
I just hope that they have not been so hampered with State Department rules of engagement that they are simply sacrificial lambs.
Hopefully they will not all end up dead like the Guatamalans who went “LRA hunting”.
Why there? Are there Christians who dare defend themselves against Obama’s murdering Islamic relatives?
There are no Christians in this story except our special forces. Actually, there might be others. Part of the operating area is South Sudan, which has a fairly large Christian populaiton. The LRA are sadistic murderous psychopaths who sometimes claim their weird death cult is based on Christianity. At other times they've allied with the Islamists.
Just in case someone doesn't know the story you are referring to:
Guatemalan blue helmet deaths stir Congo debate
31 Jan 2006 By David Lewis
KINSHASA, Jan 31 (Reuters) - Eight Guatemalan U.N. troops killed in Congo last week were casualties of a botched hunt for a top Ugandan rebel which has sparked a debate about the U.N.'s peacekeeping tactics, diplomats and U.N. sources said on Tuesday.
The Guatemalan "Kaibil" Special Forces soldiers were killed on Jan. 23 during what the U.N. mission in Democratic Republic of Congo officially says was a "reconnaissance patrol" in the eastern Garamba National Park near the border with Sudan.
It was the second deadliest loss in the history of the U.N. mission in Congo, the world's biggest peacekeeping force.
Guatemala has demanded an inquiry into the deaths, which occurred in a four-hour gunbattle with fighters of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), one of a number of Ugandan rebel groups still operating in northeastern Congo after the end of a five-year war. At least 15 rebels were also killed in the clash.
Some reports put the death toll at 40 Guatemalans.
We have troops in Obo, Africa?
Why am I not surprised?
