Gingrich: Send U.S. Marshals To Arrest Uncooperative Judges By Matt DeLong

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich showed no sign Sunday of letting up on his assault on “activist” federal judges. During an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Gingrich suggested the president could send federal law enforcement authorities to arrest judges who make controversial rulings in order to compel them to justify their decisions before congressional hearings.

When asked by host Bob Schieffer how he would force federal judges to comply with congressional subpoenas, Gingrich said he would send the U.S. Capitol Police or U.S. Marshals to arrest the judges and force them to testify.

Gingrich, who in recent weeks has surged to the front of the pack in the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, has come under fire from the left and the right for his attacks on the federal judiciary. Michael Mukasey, former attorney general during the George W. Bush administration, said some of Gingrich’s proposals were “dangerous, ridiculous, totally irresponsible, outrageous, off-the-wall and would reduce the entire judicial system to a spectacle.”

Yes Obama would love it if Newt got nominated.

It’s his best chance, but the more I read I still think 0 is screwed. Especially if Condi gets involved.

Super article and 100% on point. The Constitution does not say how many SC justices there must be. A President Gingrich should simply try an FDR and pack the Court with young conservative turks.

Hey Michael. I hate to tell you but much of the judiciary is already a spectacle.

The Liberal Democrats, by their reliance on activist judges to advance their unconstitutional causes, have created this perception in America that the judicial branch is somehow superior to the legislative and executive.

Frankly, I think it's a great idea and about time to reign-in activist judges using any constitutional means necessary. Should have been done long ago.

What happens to a private citizen or a corporate titan or even a presidential appointee who thumbs their nose at a congressional subpoena? I don’t see that what Newt is saying should be all that controversial.

Time to bring the unelected black-robed priests of the Judiciary to justice themselves. Good on ya, Newt!

It’s only controversial because the Media wants to destroy Newt.

They post a headline that says something he did not say. Drudge even uses it to link to the WAPO Story.

Let’s face facts, the Left will twist every word, every phrase, every nuance to make Republicans look bad. We have a full fledged Commie in the White House and our odds are maybe 50/50 that we can rid of him next November.

“pack the Court with young conservative turks”

One of the principal functions of law school is to kill those off in their egg shells. Very, very few conservatives emerge from the schools. More get wise as the years take their toll on utopian propaganda and fantasy.
