Perry is not going to quit - even if he is in 4th place in Iowa - he will continue on to New Hampshire. He said so this week.

Perry supporters are just like Perry - they don’t quit.
Most Perry supporters don’t jump from candidate to candidate (not that there is any thing wrong with that)but they are rock solid in their support.

You need to address your question later after we get to something like half time........

The game hasn’t started yet and there are 4 quarters.

Perry is warming up and he has a team (army actually) full of talent and spirit backing him up.

Gov. Bobby Jindal is awesome! This is exciting.

Rick Perry 2012!!!

I see you’re worried that if we don’t circle the wagons around Newt now that Romney will slip in and win.

I’ve stated many times that I will back Newt if he is the nominee, but I think you are panicing too soon.

Perry is an excellent campaigner; he should strike a real chord with Iowans but I don’t intend to dismiss him if he doesn’t do well in Iowa, although I think he will.

Does Iowa rule the nation? I personally think all primaries should be on the same day.

I don’t know the statistics about how many Iowa winners went on to get the nomination, but ...

Anyway, just wait till Texas is not the cry. It’s usually pretty well over by the time Texas votes.

Don’t panic. I personally think the support for Newt is based to a great extent on the perception that he’s the one who can win.

If anyone else shows momentum, I see a lot of bandwagon jumping on and off.

Well, I see a lot of favorables for Perry now, when I once only saw them on Perry threads which CW and others posted.

I also see a dramatic drop off of the Perry haters who used to pounce on Perry threads to post stupid insults.

They’re basically gone.

The Sunday morning talk show thread is a good indicator of some of the best minds on Free Republic and, while it is still majority Newt, Perry is the favorite of a lot of people on there.

Oh, yes and much more attention to the Perry threads. They used to get many fewer posts and most of those were by haters. I see a lot of new people on them now.

It’s nothing I documented but it certainly feels that way.

To me, he was a hopeful new entrant a few months ago, then he stumbled with his “heartless” comment. But, compared to the immigration views of the other “viable” candidates? With Cain out, I’d very much like to see Perry back in the thick of this. Sorry, but I just can’t pull a lever for Romney or Gingrich.

I do genuinely like Governor, Captain Perry; I believe he is a solid Conservative (as I do Newt). I would be proud to have either of them as nominee and then President.

I am just worried that we are going to have the usual headstrong vote-splitting.

It is precisely the “Governor Perry won’t quit, and neither will we” attitude expressed a few posts ago that concerns me greatly. Is everyone really going to do this even if the Iowa and NH showings are poor?

It’s nothing personal to Perry or his die-hards. I have just gone through this in too many election cycles. Since Goldwater, the Establishment has gotten their pick nominated in every primary with one lone exception - Reagan. The reason they are successful is precisely because every time an alternative has a shot, they are bled by the six other Conservatives running (in state after state) whose supporters absolutely, positively will not budge.

I respect voting for Perry; I’m just asking for people to consider what’s at stake after the votes in Iowa have been cast.

I’m not a die hard.

Die hards get on here and post, well if so and so is nominated I’m not voting. Or, I’m voting for third party.

Or, I’m writing someone in.

I will vote for the nominee and it won’t be Romney.

Oooh. Globalist + Globalist = Globalist

It doesn’t matter if they are from ‘Texas’.

Doesn’t the Globalist Occupied Party get this?

I’m not giving up on Perry. He’s still my favorite candidate and will be to the bitter end. The only thing that is overtaking my thoughts - especially the past few weeks - is how the establishment and the media are starting to overpower this process. We the people may want Cain or Perry or Santorum or Bachmann, but it seems those candidates cannot rise above 10% without a media attack spurned on (IMO) by inside political hacks.

For example, they thought they had Perry pushed down in single digits and was an afterthought. There was little to no news about him whatsoever in recent weeks. He started to show promise in Iowa, rising in the polls, then BAM!!

He gets attacked for accepting his own retirement.

Seems there's always a counter-offensive when someone besides Mitt or Newt develops support. And I am sickened by this crap.
