I believe that some have assimilated since having moved to SE Michigan since the 50’s and ‘60’s. Their kids and grandkids are probably not such hardcore Muslims that they represent a threat to anyone in the region. They may even be considered by extremists in the old country to be infidels themselves for having grown up the way they have.
I don’t believe that all Muslims are hardcore. Some of those women, in the eyes of extremists, might qualify for “honor killing” and when it does happen, they’re no less a victim than anyone else while the murderer is no less a murderer than anyone else.
If All-American Muslim can do anything to enlighten our society it may be to bring about an awareness of the potential for violence towards Muslim women and children in America by Islamic extremists in America or from the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Mexico and Canada.
Obama declares that the war is over and he expects the rest of us to believe it but that was us taking the war to them. What we need to worry about now are developing situations here in the states. If Iraq eventually falls victim to Iranian aggression, we’d have to double or triple down on it all over again. We can’t afford to let our military’s capabilities be diminished. We haven’t yet been able to declare victory and this is not your father’s Vietnam, either.
1. Most Middle Easterners are not Muslim. I hesitate to use the term Arab as some take that offensively depending on their ancestry. The majority are Lebanese Christians, along with Chaldeans and Assyrians. Most, but not all of the Muslims are in Dearborn. A lot of the Chaldeans are now in Macomb County. A LOT of the recent immigrants are Chaldeans. Middle Easterners have been immigrating to the Detroit area since the 1920's. Ford plants.
2. The majority of Muslims are blacks. Most blacks aren't Muslim, but there are about 300,000 Middle Easterners in Michigan compared to about 1.3-1.4 million blacks. There's also a sizable Albanian population in Hamtramck.
3. Dearborn has a large Middle Eastern population, but it is still largely white ethnic. East Dearborn is heavily Middle Eastern. West Dearborn less so. It is also one of the safer suburbs that borders the city of Detroit outside of the Grosse Pointes. I'll say this. They take care of their city.
