Mitt Romney talks a big game about repealing Obamacare on the campaign trail these days. But in the wake of the law's passage, he had a more modest goal: "repeal the bad and keep the good."
That's a line that Romney himself used at a 2010 appearance that has now resurfaced. In the video, which Ben Domenech has more on and I've posted below, Romney makes many of the same arguments that would be familiar to those following the GOP primary. He says that his Massachusetts plan was different because it was at the state level and argues that his plan didn't raise taxes (I've rebutted those arguments before). But he also does something you'll never hear him do these days --note the similarities between the two laws.
In the video, Romney says "we have an incentive for people to become insured." In case you were wondering, that's a euphemism for the individual mandate, which provides an "incentive" by forcing individuals to purchase insurance under the threat of a fine. He also reminds the audience that like Obama's law, his legislation forced insurers to cover people with preexisting conditions and created an exchange for individuals to purchase insurance.
At the end of the clip, Romney concludes: "So, some similarities, some differences. And I hope we'll be able to eliminate some of the differences. Repeal the bad and keep the good."

I’m not a Romney fan, but what is preventing the GOP majority in the house from defunding Obamacare?
The 2010 class ran on defunding Obamacare, yet they have not defunded it. So why blame someone who at the moment, does not have the power, and give passes to the GOP house majority, who DO HAVE THE POWER TO DEFUND? Makes no sense.
It would be a lot easier to speak to this if Romney spelled out what he’s calling “the good.” What got passed was a monstrous hodgepodge.
I took one of those online quizzes to see which candidate I most agreed with, and was not surprised to find that Romney was not in my top 4. (I was surprised that Ron Paul was).
What did surprise me was that according to the quiz, Newt Gingrich has also suggested there were parts of Obamacare that he would want to keep or re-pass. The quiz didn’t say what parts though, and I can’t find a good statement anywhere.
If the choice is Romney/Obama, I’m voting third party. And don’t tell me I’m throwing away my vote. If you vote for Romney and he wins (he won’t) you’d get Obama lite.
Third party is the way to go.
You can throw away your vote whether or not I tell you so. It would probably be better to vote for nobody rather than an opponent of someone in a position to beat Obama. It pains me to see fallacious arguments (especially from people who really ought to be up with the issues and ought to know better) being used about Mitt when there are enough honestly true reasons to object to Mitt. Mitt has never called for nationwide Obamacare, and if he has a danger it would be that Mitt would be leery of appointing judges, etc. who threaten to upset the applecart of states that do choose a Romneycare-like system.
The supermajorities of the House and Senate will be able to repeal ANYthing they want.
I don’t care who is President—if we take the legislative branch, with extreme prejudice—it won’t matter who is in the Oval Office.
B’sides, I think any of the Republicans will happily repeal Hussein’s DeathCare Law—Mitt included—and re-write it with Republican ideas in mind.
AND he is ineligible.

Carville(D):
"It's a feel-good story, this Romney thing.
Romney is an ascendant guy."
Sen. John Kerry (D) to Don Imus on RomneyCARE:
"I like this health care bill".
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D) on RomneyCARE:
"To come up with a bipartisan plan in this polarized environment is commendable."
Mitt Romney wins much coveted Jimmy Carter endorsement

Truthful Milt Romney:
"I'm very clear I think, to the people across the Commonwealth
my "R" didn't stand so much for Republican as it does for reform."

“New reason to doubt Romney would repeal Obamacare”
New reason, same as the old reason: Romney is a two-faced lying RINO lib....... being pushed on us by the republican establishment.
GO NEWT GO.........
I would like to see the house go on record with such a vote but it would be just to make a point since the bill would never even be introduced in the senate.
Only two reasons I can think of that such a vote is on hold...
1-they don’t think they have the votes (not likely true).
2-they are waiting to closer to the election (more likely true).
Theres never going to be that one perfect candidate. As Governor and President, Reagan signed huge tax increases into law and would have been pilloried by some Freepers if he were our nominee today.
For those planning to throw a temper tantrum and vote third party or sit this one out if Romney is the nominee, don't come crying to us when Obama gets reelected and you lose your job and your home.
I have said that I would not vote for Romney, and I sure hope I don’t have to, But better our Obama than theirs.
And I do not see a helluvalot of difference between Obama and Romney, except that Mitt will probably be in the White House a lot more and take less trips on our plane.
How can we know what Romney believes are who he is? Not sure that he is anything more than a human pile of ambition. He reminds me of John Kerry. Before it before he was against it. Whatever it was or is.
Don’t trust him.
The conventional wisdom for GOP candidates has been to run to the right for the nomination and to the center for the general. Who’s to say that romney is any different? The only difference is romney’s definition of the center. By the time we have the general, romney will sound the same as zero.
Romney must be defeated!
and this differs fron Newt...how

I was raised a Mormon so I was schooled in this stuff. Yeah, they don’t follow it right now (just as they don’t practice polygamy openly (but they do in their temples*)), but left to their own devices, they would be there. It gives you some insight into Romney’s being. His family goes way back in Mormonism and he is a strong practitioner. Like most religions, Mormonism is socialist/communist at it’s core.
* a man can be married to as many women as he wants in the temple, but a woman only once.
The corrupt Republican House leadership was not defeated in the 2010 primaries, as they should have been.
