Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney sought to create doubts about rival Newt Gingrich among South Carolina conservatives on Saturday by criticizing his high-paid work for mortgage giant Freddie Mac.

Romney, on a two-day tour of South Carolina to try to dent Gingrich's big lead in the polls here, all but accused Gingrich of lobbying for Freddie Mac by accepting $1.6 million in consultants' fees from an enterprise at the heart of America's housing crisis.

Gingrich has nurtured South Carolina's Tea Party conservatives to try to secure the state that holds the first primary in the South on January 21 and the third overall contest in the race to determine a candidate to face Democratic President Barack Obama next November.

“Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney sought to create doubts about rival Newt Gingrich among South Carolina conservatives on Saturday by criticizing his high-paid work for mortgage giant Freddie Mac.”

Guess Gingrich backed off his counter-attack involving Romney’s own business antics a little too quickly. I think Romney senses he is losing right out of the starting gate like in 2008.

Amen! This Marxist regime will not risk losing power on a close election much less one that may be a landslide loss. If so, the internet and FR will go black.

The Republicans need to attack Obama rather than each other. They would all look better as a result. On this particular issue, Romney looks weak with his accusation. Why would Fannie Mae make such a flimsy effort to hide paying Newt to lobby for them? If that were their purpose it is easy to see through. How does his giving them a lecture on how to solve their problems constitute lobbying? That is lobbying in reverse. Were he lobbying he would be talking to others on their behalf, not to them. I am not aware of any of that and Romney has not produced any examples. If there were some, he would present them.

Conversely, Perry should bring with him the two versions of Romney's book he talks about and point out the difference to everyone. However, I am confident he is accurate because I am sure the MSM has checked it out and they have said nothing. Were Perry wrong it would be heralded far and wide. Obama, the media and the GOP elites seem to want Romney. That should tell us something.

It does bother me that SC Gov Nikki Halley is following Myth around SC like an adoring puppy dog.

I could see her endorsing Myth to pay him back for endorsing her but this is ridiculous.
