..On a campaign swing through Cherokee, Iowa, Perry was asked why the Employee Retirement System should be paying his retirement while he's still collecting a salary.
"That's been in place for decades. ... I don't find that to be out of the ordinary," Perry said of the practice. "ERS called me and said, 'Listen, you're eligible to access your retirement now with your military time and your time and service, and I think you would be rather foolish to not access what you've earned.'"
...The governor's gross annual salary is $150,000; his net salary is $133,000. The net monthly annuity check Perry started receiving Jan. 31 is $7,698. Combined, his net pay from the state is now more than $225,000 annually.
...."As part of his standard financial planning, on Jan. 31, 2011, Gov. Perry began to receive a Texas state employee retirement annuity of $7,698 per month before taxes ($6,588 net)," [Ray] Sullivan said. "The annuity is consistent with Texas state law and Employee Retirement System rules."
'Rule of 80'
Perry, 61, has a long record of state service, having won election as a state House member, state agriculture secretary and lieutenant governor before becoming governor in 2000.
Sullivan cited what's known by state employees as the "rule of 80," which allows state employees to start drawing on their retirement when their age plus years of public service credit totals at least 80.
"The combination of Gov. Perry's U.S. military service, state service and age exceeded the state-required 80 years and qualified him for the annuity," Sullivan said.
Perry continues to pay 6.5 percent withholding tax from his state salary to the state retirement system, the spokesman added.....

That kept all my money in the private sector.
Bet you bought some T bills ~ gave it all up to Uncle Sam didn't ya?
Nothing. TSP is peachy.
If you didn't have FERS to go along with it, I doubt there would be complaints about anything.
The toll road has an interstate designation simply for convenience.
Now, where do you get your information about what Mitch Daniels does?
How about this, if you didn’t have FERS you would have CSRS, which is a more costly system. No two ways about it ~ FERS PLUS the Thrift Savings Plan costs the government less than CSRS.
NOBODY actually gets the "high three" ~ With Fers that 1% per year with 20 years of service would be 20%. You'd multiply the high three by .20 and you'd get that as your annual retirement payment.
If he works 20 years from the time he's 35 until he's 56, he's really not getting all that much time in the defined benefit part of the retirement program.
Plus, many of the private retirement plans end up with a lump sum annuity that is transferable at death to heirs and assigns. That's not the case with any of the federal plans. You die the goodies stop.
How about this, if you didn't have FERS you would have Social Security. SS plus TSP would cost the government less than FERS plus TSP (and be just like the private sector so nobody would complain)
I guess well all should have gotten high paying, major benefited, govt jobs. I could have retired 24 years ago.
Instead, here I am still trying to scratch out a living as a small biz owner. I’m the last one to get paid. If it all these days. But the govt entities, and the required by law to have ins companies, employees, utilities, vendors, etc, all get paid before I do. I’m last on the list. Some folks don’t get this. Especially those dipsh!ts in govt “service.”
Next time around I will know better. Get a govt job. Retire at 38. Get another job in govt, collect my retirement, and my salary from the 2nd govt job.
“And you again avoided the comment about required shots for school.”
I answered your question. My kids have every shot required, and will continue to do so as long as those shots don’t involve diseases spread through crappy behavior.
So, get some sleep, and I’m sorry that you have to resort to talking like a Nanny Stater just to support a corrupt candidate.
We are from the govt, and we are here to help you. Do not resist. Do not resist. Ok, he’s not cooperating...tase him Frank!
“There is a parallel Interstate highway there anyway.”
Yep, 50 miles north. That makes sense to people living in Indiana. Daniels is almost as much an IDIOT as Perry is. At least with Daniels, he would have had to look to another country to see what Cintra does to people that drive their highways. Perry could just look to Indiana...but when you’re corrupt as hell, why bother.
“We are from the govt, and we are here to help you. Do not resist. Do not resist. Ok, hes not cooperating...tase him Frank!”
People that support Newt still will DISAGREE with him sitting on that couch with Pelosi.
...but if Perry had done the same thing, his supporters would be explaining to us why Global Warming is such a problem and a good leader take care of us and we need to support Pelosi in her quest.
I’m simply at a loss as to how ANYONE can defend MANDATING Gardasil on a conservative website. But I guess there are trolls everywhere.
“We are from the govt, and we are here to help you. Do not resist. Do not resist. Ok, hes not cooperating...tase him Frank!”
At this point I plan to vote for Newt, simply because Cain is gone. But I will NEVER try to defend his position on legalizing millions of Illegals, NEVER.
Yet, have you noticed that NONE of the Perry supporters EVER have a bad thing to say about him - even on Gardasil or the Texas Dream Act.
(just shows what money can buy...)
The Indiana Toll Road has always been The Indiana Toll Road ~ never been a freeway ~ so your point about what Daniels did with a toll road is what?
Some agencies, e.g. USPS, make that payment out of revenues received in payment of postage ~ not from spending your tax dollars. The poor schlubs who just want to advertise their wares to you, or sell you cruises, or maybe news about what your TEA Party chapter is up to 'locally', pay that.
Regarding COLA you have to remember the people getting the retirement didn't create the inflation behind it. if you can ever get to a zero inflation situation (like we've had for the last three years), then COLA turns to ZERO, just like with Social Security.
BTW, you forced the government folks into Social Security already ~ which is another thing I'm curious about ~ your Democrat masters told you that it would be good for Social Security to include the federal employees in the system ~ that there'd be a "profit" to the system ~ so, where's the profit? Did the Democrats lie to you again?
You should take appropriate action and get the pick-up trucks out and go after those dasterdly people.
Working for a living was a stupid thing to do ~
Remember, not everybody gets an Interstate door to door. I did because I moved to a location that did that for me. Then they built a subway, started up commuter rail, etc. I'm living here at a vast transportation nexus that enables me to cover the entire DC Metro Area in under an hour ~ you can live places around here where it takes you an hour to get to the Beltway. I can hear the Beltway!
Right?
Has Newt said his position was wrong legalizing millions of illegals?
{BTW: this is a FEDERAL ISSUE that effects all Americans}
Perry said he made a mistake and should have had an Opt In instead of an Opt Out. Or that he should have let the Tx Legislature handle it.
{BTW: this is a STATE ISSUE that only involves Texas}
Regarding the Texas Dream Act...
is something Texans agreed with.
Perry could not have stopped that law because the Texas Legislature voted on it almost unanimously. He could not have vetoed it even if he wanted to.
{BTW: this is a STATE ISSUE that only involves TEXAS}
If Texans want or do not want the HPV vaccine - they will have to take it up with their STATE Representatives.
If Texans want or do not want the Tx Dream Act...
(which is in no way similar to the National Dream Act and only involves the price of tuition [which they have to PAY] high school graduated [mandated K-12 education by FEDERAL GOVERNMENT] who qualify for college),
they will have to take it up with their STATE
Representatives.
{It is a STATE ISSUE only involving the state of TEXAS}
Perry listened to Texans when it came down to TTC and backed off. What more do you want? Besides, TTC was a STATE ISSUE).
If Texans want or do not want Amnesty for millions of Illegals (which Newt is for) they will have to vote on the 2012 Candidate that is NOT for Amnesty (Perry is NOT for Amnesty) or look to their FEDERAL Congress Critter.
