I remember pulling into Tonopah NV with a Chevy Caprice full of Japanese ladies and a few hundred dollars. Those were the days.
Without going to the site of the original story, I too thought they were referring to Nevada, but found out there is a Tonopah Arizona in Maricopa county where this story is from.
A few years ago working out of Reno, NV it was a standard saying that if God were to give Nevada an enema, the tube would be inserted in Tonopah.
I remember stopping to eat at a burger joint in Tonopah in about ‘75 and fighting the flies for my hamburger. Indoors, at a table.
Yeah, I know.

I lived in Tonopah (NV) for a year - one week at a time.
Stayed overnight, then drive back out to the Sandia range to work.
Folks are right, the place sucked, but not as bad as Beatty. Beatty marks the end of civilization in Nevada...
Except this happened in Tonopah (AZ) in Maricopa County.
