Special Report: Tea Party grassroots army readies for battle
By Nick Carey | Reuters Thu, Dec 15, 2011
MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (Reuters) - For insight into the conservative Tea Party movement's battle plan in 2012, check out Joe Dugan's Google spreadsheets.
Dugan, 66, a retired manufacturing executive and chairman of the Myrtle Beach Tea Party, is particularly proud of the scoring system he's devised for South Carolina legislators. Every vote by a member of the state's House or Senate is recorded, with points awarded for those that reflect the conservative position.
"Let's say you get above a five, we'll actively campaign for your reelection," Dugan says. "Below a three, then - Republican or Democrat - we'll come after you."
In 2010 the Myrtle Beach Tea Party backed 10 Republican candidates for state and local offices - from school board to governor. All ten won, including sitting Governor Nikki Haley, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint and Myrtle Beach freshman Congressman Tim Scott.
This year, when South Carolina gained a seventh seat in the House of Representatives based on the 2010 U.S. Census, Dugan's group successfully lobbied for the new district to be in their area and is now vetting candidates.

Wonder how Haley’s endorsement of Mitt Romney will impact the TEA members?
Jim DeMint has chosen not to endorse anyone in the primaries - wonder if he will feel the pressure to change his mind?
But...but...but, the MSM has told us that the Tea Party Movement was all but finished!
The Tea Party has made a fatal error!
They’ve sold their e-mail list to a bunch of bothersome idiots!
Maybe in some places, but here in SE Virginia, there have been no Tea Party events or communications in over a year.
That's exactly why my hubby and I started going to the monthly Tea Party meetings in our region ... and we're not the only ones ... the attendance has been growing with each meeting.
Why did Haley show for Romney? Why was it important to her to be seen endorsing him at this time? Is the fix in now to secure her own future with the establishment deciders? This is a big endorsement for Romney.
Perfect. Vice president, female, the South? We are going to get bought off this way....... AGAIN, aren’t we?
Because the GOP chose Romney for us already. The fix was in a long time ago. We're all wasting our time, and our donations, thinking someone else is going to "win" the primaries.
She just wants to end up on the "winning" side.
Keeping the rapes and overdoses to a minimum?
“here in SE Virginia, there have been no Tea Party events or communications in over a year.”
Ditto for our area of TN. We’ve been wondering if the Tea Party will be influential or active at all for the 2012 election. Since our slate of candidates is so incredibly pitiful, we need to concentrate on overloading the Senate and Congress with Tea Party conservatives. Seems to be the only way to bring America around.
The Blue Ridge Patriots in Berkeley County, West Virginia, are more active and committed than ever! I too don’t understand where these reports come from. Maybe if we broke the law a little more. . .
The Tea Party is going to give lessons to Occupy Wall Street on how to REALLY occupy!

Because Haley wants to continue to rise in her career and perhaps have a cabinet position someday so she needs to move next to the republicans to accomplish that.
The Tea Party, which isn’t a Party, doesn’t have the clout like the GOP does and to advance in their careers politicians will do what the GOP powerbrokers want them to.
They’re all whores.
That is exactly Rush’s take this afternoon, word for word. Amazing! Still, she has all the credentials Romney lacks and needs. If not Rubio, then Haley may be a player for VP. Something is up for such an early endorsement, at which time as Romney wants to rush Newt with some important endorsements and heavy hitter names, a buzz creator.
