Supreme Court to mess with Texas By: Alex Isenstadt December 15, 2011 04:56 PM EST

Redistricting is a process fraught with lawsuits — but few make it all the way to the United States Supreme Court.

Texas’s plan has, and its path to the nation’s highest court has been a long one — stretching from the backrooms of the state Capitol to a San Antonio courtroom. The stakes are high: how the nine justices rule will help determine who controls the House of Representatives.

Here’s POLITICO’s guide to the Texas redistricting battle.

Road to high court

Earlier this year, the GOP-controlled Texas Legislature approved a Republican-friendly redistricting plan that positioned the party to win as many as three of the four new seats being gained in the current round of reapportionment. The Justice Department and minority-rights groups sued, arguing in federal court that the map diminished the voting power of Hispanics in violation of the Voting Rights Act. While a Washington court waited to hear the case, a San Antonio-based panel of three federal judges was tasked with drawing an interim redistricting plan for the 2012 election.

The San Antonio court’s map was decidedly more friendly to Democrats than the GOP-drawn plan. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, a Republican, filed a lawsuit with the United States Supreme Court seeking to have the temporary map stayed. Late last week, the court agreed to hear the case, with oral arguments set for Jan. 9.

Why Texas?

Texas is tailor-made for redistricting litigation. With a booming Hispanic population that accounted for nearly two-thirds of the state’s growth over the past decade and a sizable number of black voters, the state has a diverse citizenry — meaning legislators were under pressure to accommodate an array of interests when crafting the new plan.

Why is it that they mess with Texas, but California is the most gerrymandered State in the Union, and they do nothing about California?

Diverse Citizenry my A**! It’s a dumping ground for Mexico & beyond. They want remittance money to prop up their sh*thole nation-states. “DIVERSE”- we could make it so by importing some 10 million more Asians,Latvians, Swedes,Poles or the Copts getting slaughtered in Egypt!

The OBVIOUS gorilla in the room is: Race determines interest, not in what America is about based on the Constitution, but rather, what's in it for me?

How does race under-representation become "discrimination" or "disenfranchisement", when LEGAL Citizens (regardless of color) still get one vote and WHY do races and ethnicities seek to have SPECIAL treatment of their "Rights" (whatever that means, since we're all Americans, under the same Constitutional Repubublic)?

That's like the absurd concept of "a black seat" on the Supreme Court or a woman's seat on the Court.

Does the Constitution read differently if one is an African American? Is justice somehow different for blacks or women, or Hispanics than it is for the rest of us?

Well said.

However, that's what we're living with TODAY; due to allowing political correctness and the Progressives keeping MINORITIES and ILLEGALS "ON THE PLANTATION", with other people's money.

Their ‘guide’? Why....any damned thing the leftists want when they want it, of course....as it as always been....while ignoring any inconvenient facts to the contrary of what leftists believe.

“What is POLITICO’S “guide” for the democrat controlled redistricting that was imposed in California?”
