Police have confirmed that there was an initial crash involving the blue SUV (at first believed to be an Escalade but now believed to be a Chevy Tahoe) at North Collins Street and Cantor Drive, just south of the second accident scene.
Sgt. Christopher Cook said the blue SUV fled north on Collins after that crash, followed by multiple vehicles whose drivers were trying to get a license plate. The blue SUV, traveling at a high rate of speed, rear-ended a gray Dodge pickup stopped at Brown Boulevard.
One person in the pickup was killed, and eight vehicles were eventually involved in the chain-reaction crash, Cook said.
The damaged SUV ended up in the southbound lanes. At some point, Cook said, "a young man walked up to the driver's side of the SUV and was shot."
Cook said investigators aren't sure whether the victim emerged from a vehicle or was a bystander who just walked up to try to help. Several apartments, businesses and a golf course surround the intersection.
"The big question is why this happened," he said. "Whether it was road rage or something else, we don't know. We're still looking at possible motives."

Local crime story and it doesn't get much crazier than this. Essentially thug in Tahoe hits another vehicle, takes off and is chased by witnesses. They travel at speeds up to 100mph on four lane city blvd. Thug rear ends a vehicle stopped at traffic light, kills him in the accident, and shoots and kills teenager who came to his vehicle to offer help to said thug and his twin sons in the back seat. Sketchy reports say 7-10 vehicles involved in total.
Lots of details from various sources as well as videos.

The story on this has been changing all afternoon.
20 years ago I lived right down the street from where this happened....
Any rate, not sure what the lesson is here. Don't chase hit and run thugs? (probably wise) Or perhaps avoid offering assistance because you might just get shot for your trouble?
BTW, I used to live in those apartments in the picture years ago while going to school. These have changed in N Arlington, for the worst.
That’s funny. I lived in those ugly apts in the scene there which were named Misty Ridge Apts while in school 20 years ago.
Five minutes north from my business. Amish perp, by the looks of the photo on MyFoxDFW.
You own Whole Foods?
Which Arlington? Virginia, Texas, Massachusetts? Would it hurt to put two extra letters in the title?
The last report I heard on the radio a couple hours ago said the perp shot some one who was rendering aid to the wounded, in the head.
Arlington Texas ping!
Tx
It is now worth $157,000...LOL
Small 3 bed 1 bath huge yard...
Betcha if I moved back I'd be the only English speaking guy on the street....
Don’t that pizz you off?
That’s a bad intersection anyway. Rain and crazy idiots don’t help.
I never heard if the occupants in the yellow ‘smart car’ survived.
And stop whining; it's not becoming of a lady. Good grief.
North East side huh?
For those who did not read the entire article, the last line reveals the driver/shooter had his twin toddlers in the vehicle.
Color me stuned.
Cheers,
