Newt and the Pundits
American Thinker ^ | 12/14/2011 | Steve McCann

Posted on 12/14/2011 4:22:13 PM PST by TBBT

To many people, history is what has happened in the past few years or weeks. Regrettably, the American public is woefully ignorant of what has transpired in the past. Thus they can be easily influenced by those willing to demagogue or skew the facts to serve their political ambitions or biases. The truth about what happened nearly twenty or fifteen years ago is unknown to far too many potential voters. The recent tidal wave of criticism, re-hashing, and exaggerating Newt Gingrich's "baggage" and positions, mostly by Republican pundits and politicians, is a case in point. However, the reality of what happened in the 1980's and 90's has been lost amid the vitriol. While Newt Gingrich may not be the ideal candidate and he may not ultimately win the nomination, the facts deserve to be told. In a column by Tony Blankley, who served as Newt's press secretary while he was Speaker of the House, the reality of those years has been revealed.

The reporting of that PPP poll has been in overdrive. No mention of the Insider Advantage poll or others. Headlines of Paul within 1 of Newt and Newt tanking have more drama. Nevermind that the particulars of the PPP poll showing a different story and results more in line with other polling.

One would think that Newt was a Democrat given the GOP establishment's hysterical reaction to him.

TBBT, how DARE Newt soar in the polls! Rove, Krauthammer, Noonan, Coulter said he would never rise above single digits. How DARE Tea Party and conservative voters support Newt...he is NOT Romney. I thought the really dirty politics would start AFTER we had our nominee but the MSM including FOX NEWS and their many conservative crony reporters, analysts are in lock step behind Mitt. Yesterday, FOX had 3 people on that supported Romney; Coulter, Krauthammer and Christine O’Connell. It was a get rid of Gingrich fest. FREE campaign time for Romney.
We have to start emailing and blogging on the sites that are spreading outright mistruths and skewing the facts.

Blankley on Newt from your article said it all ...political facts and not the revisionist hysteria

The more I watch of the GOP “establihmet”, the more I realize just how much a part of the CORRUPTION in WASHINGTON they bear! I thought well over a year ago that Newt had the strength, the smarts and the gonads to take on the Obama machine that we HAVE TO HAVE to win this critical election. Romney thinks throwing money (or making bet) is a fight - he’ll be swallowed whole by the Obummer Mafia Team. They play dirty and Romney doesn’t like to sully his hands!

The Washington establish must really fear Newt ... interesting. Maybe he should announce that he is bringing Sarah Palin on board in some important capacity, then they really will have a heart attack.

Excellent column and be sure to read the first two comments.

I am beginning to think some, or several, of these pundits and fossil incumbents against him are worried that Gingrich knows where too many bodies are buried....!

Big changes coming to the comfy, corrupt Beltway crowd!

GO GINGRICH! BELTWAY OUTSIDER, YOU BETCHA!

“......worried that Gingrich knows where too many bodies are buried....!”

I have believed that this is a big part of what is going on.

The corrupt bastards are scared to death of what is going to happen to their world when Newt gets to town. They had the same concerns when Palin was on their trail.

GO NEWT GO...........

America’s economy and security have become one big junkyard. It will take a “junkyard dawg” to clear the place up. I’ll give Newt a 4 year shot at it. He knows his way around the yard and is not afraid to bite. He knows he has only one shot left to go down in history as the President who saved America from the Marxists/Socialists/Communists. Its Newt’s time.

"how DARE Newt soar in the polls! Rove, Krauthammer, Noonan, Coulter"

That group is NOT going to support a candidate with Any Kind of conservative credentials.

Ann Coulter: "Nonetheless, yet and still it has worked, and most Americans don’t want Sarah Palin for president. But she’s become sort of the Obama of the Tea Party. She’s just “The One” to a certain segment of right wingers."

Charles Krauthammer: "Charles Krauthammer rips 'irresponsible' Palin"

Karl Rove: "Karl Rove Criticizes Sarah Palin; Mocks Reality Show"

And, Noonan? She jumped the shark a long time ago for Obama.
