Pretty big quake, but the shake map doesn’t appear to show much impact. Good.

It was 75 miles deep. I think that is a little deeper than most. I’m no expert in any of this.

Not unusual for this region.

This one is bigger than the 2 recent quakes in Mexico that killed several people. It does sound pretty deep.

Thanks for posting this! My wife and one-year old son are in Port Moresby right now helping my mother-in-law with her businesses over there. (PNG is booming right now because they are unafraid to exploit their gold, oil, and natural gas, unlike the US). I called as soon as I saw this and they are all fine. She said the quake we had in San Jose (5.8 I believe on the Calaveras Fault) a few years ago was more intense but that quake lasted a long time. Luckily it was very deep as you said. I’m heading there in 8 days myself. Hopefully there won’t be any big quakes while I’m there. My wife and son will be traveling back with me in January.
