You may not like SS but FDR was the last President with the balls to formally declare war and win against 2 world class foes in shorter time that our present wars.

FDR was a dictator too?

Just like 0bama, he did took the credit of the work that congress did when THEY declared war?

Oh and one other wonderful accomplishment of FDR's that dragged the effects of the depression into the mid to late fifties....

Newt is a disaster for conservatives.

Anyone currently running but Newt.

If people here dont know how huge WWII was they are sadly deficient in the history department.

And FDR supported Britain with lend lease well before Pearl Harbor. He then brilliantly managed a ast of historical greats in an all out global conflict for survival.

Was he an SOB who made mistakes? Sure but still a great great president.

Saying FDR just took credit for Congress declaring war is the height of historical ignorance. Sorry but some of us have been taking Glenn Beck’s version of good/evil WAY too seriously.

I personally reserve “great” for two Presidents: Washington and Lincoln. I would place Roosevelt in the next rank, however.

Any list of “historians’” “great leaders” are led by the ones who killed the most people and made the state stronger.

Presidents who cared about freedom and prosperity, like Cleveland, Harding, and Coolidge are considered failures and cranks by “historians”. And Newt.

The left will coalesce around the worst president in our history.
We’ll stand on the sidelines pointing, criticizing and bickering about who we have that can beat him.

I’ve decided to support Newt. The way he’s being attacked is one of the main reasons now. I was contenet to sit it out and wait before I made my mind up, but threads like these that do nothing but slander and attack have caused me to do it.

Your list is scary and not the kind of person we need in the Oval office. Newt is not someone I trust .

Why in heaven’s name is any Republican backing this guy? His latest winner—he attacked Romney for making money in the private sector as a venture capitalist who helped launch companies like Staples. Romney, he says, “bankrupted” companies. What we have here is a fatter, nastier version of McCain. He isn’t at all likeable, one of the prerequisites for successful presidential candidates.

He totally misread Joe Stalin,

More likely abetted Stalin, they were soul mates.

Rick Perry will be left standing.

I'm not even a Perry fan, but I'd support him before I would Newt. I respect Newt's intelligence and somewhat inventive mind, but I can't overlook his arrogance and hypocrisy. If he wins the nomination, it will only be through attrition-----not by his efforts, and not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Newt was a liberal Rockefeller Republican in the late 1960s and thru the 1970s. It wasn’t until he saw the handwriting on the wall for his brand of Republicanism that he latched onto the Reagan Revolution. I don’t trust Newt’s conservatism, I see it as closer to opportunism. He was gullible enough to latch onto Nancy Pelosi and the Global Warming scam, mind-boggingly supported ultra-leftist Dede Scozzafava over a conservative, and is in favor of giving amnesty to illegals. Those last 3 items are unacceptable to me, and I don’t trust him not to be corruptible once back in office. I think this guy loves the power and the limelight and is long on academia theories, but has never lived or proved them out in the private sector.

It’s presiding over and winning WWII that pushes Roosevelt over the top with most historians.

We are the only country in history (aside from Israel) to fight a two-front war and win. That FDR was the President when that two-front war was fought and won is deserving of special recognition. This is particularly true given that the two-front war was fought on a global scale against genocidal regimes that would have killed tens to hundreds of millions of people if they had won.
