Romney in 2002: “My views are progressive”
Hot Air ^ | DECEMBER 13, 2011 | Ed Morrissey

Hey, we get it. Republicans don’t win office in Massachusetts by proclaiming themselves as Ronald Reagan conservatives. When running for governor in 2002, Romney needed to sell himself as a Republican that represented the mainstream of liberal Massachusetts, which is why he told reporters in this clip that he was a “moderate” Republican who was “not a partisan,” and that “my views are progressive.” He told them what he needed in order to win the election.

The question is whether that was his strategy then and he was a secret conservative all along, or whether that’s his strategy today and he’s really a progressive:

Yes, but Willard was secretly a conservative when he said that, and when he delivered RomneyCare with all its new rules, new taxes, its exchanges, and its mandates.

Willard's alleged conservatism is so secret that even his closest followers are at a loss to provide any evidence that actually exists in the form of positions or policy.

I wonder if we have any liberals....er, Romney supporters that could answer that question for us. Was he lying then or is he lying now? Either way, why do we want to nominate a proven liar?

The worst thing was when he said “I ran away from the Reagan-Bush agenda during the 1980’s.”

Progressive .... Code Word for Democrat. Also, Code Word for Liberal. Supporter of Universal Health Care.

Some well known progressive members of Congress have included Ted Kennedy, Russ Feingold, Dennis Kucinich, Barney Frank, Bernie Sanders, Al Franken, John Conyers, John Lewis, and Paul Wellstone. And former Governors ... Mitt Romney.

We have taken a great opportunity in removing BHO and pissed on it. We are attacking each other...eating our own. When the air clears...we are going to have Romney Or Newt and a 3rd party candidate, no doubt. We should have united in our efforts to get rid of the socialist....we didn’t...we tore the a-hole out of every candidate we have. We feel right into the media’s plans. What a shame.

The more I see of Mitt the more upset I get. This guy can’t be the nominee. Any of the other candidates would be better. I just hope that if Newt flounders that we get behind someone else and defeat this guy who clearly doesnt actually believe in anything (and therefore cant be trusted with the keys to the kingdom). Give me Santorum, give me Huntsman, give me Paul. Anybody but Romney!

"We have taken a great opportunity in removing BHO and pissed on it. We are attacking each other...eating our own."

AN AESOP FABLE

A fable that every Conservative voter in 2012 should read and think about.
* * *

A cattle dealer once drove some bulls to the slaughterhouse. And the butcher came with his sharp knife.

"Let us close ranks and jack up this executioner on our horns," suggested one of the bulls.

"If you please, in what way is the butcher any worse than the dealer who drove us hither with his cudgel?" replied the bulls."

"But we shall be able to attend to the dealer as well afterwards!"

"Nothing doing," replied the bulls firm in their principles, to the counselor. "You are trying, from the left, to shield our enemies -- you are a social-butcher yourself."

And they refused to close ranks.

If that's your standard, not many politicians will meet it. :-))

Who knows who the real Romney is or if even he knows? I suspect if he were elected he'd hew pretty close to the conservative line because he'd want to be reelected. That's what the guy lives for and why he has flip-flopped so much.
