That is the kind of "dog-whistle politics" politicians can do -- use language and make overtures that activists pick up on and the rest of the country doesn't notice. But the question is whether the activists are going to be the people smiling in the end, or whether they'll feel used and cheated (or be used and cheated and not even realize it).
They’ll both be used and cheated and not realize it and be bummed that they were (again) used and cheated.
I have sat here for a few minutes before writing this next:
it will make no difference. They are totally about process and they live for dramatic collective events. Some will perhaps drop out of activism, but none of the ones I have known will give up the cause. They are personally invested in Marxism and the destruction of tradition. Also, most are so privileged that they cannot conceive of having been totally wrong and totally duped forever. They really believe they are the best and the brightest and they live in an echo chamber.
