Newt may be a flawed conservative, but he is no RINO like McCain nor Romney. I can't help but be reminded of William F. Buckley, back (I think) in the eighties, making an impassioned plea in the pages of National Review for government-mandated "volunteerism" for all eighteen-year-olds. I didn't think any less of him on account of it, but it certainly didn't do credit to his conservative credentials.
