Newt Is the Problem
NRO ^ | 121111 | Avik Roy

Posted on 12/12/2011 4:03:09 PM PST by Fred

Newt Gingrich’s rise to the top of the GOP polls is fueled, in part, by Republicans’ mistrust of Mitt Romney. Romney’s signature Massachusetts health-care law, the model for Obamacare, leads many to wonder whether Romney can challenge the president on this most important domestic issue. But any conservative who opposes Romney because of Romneycare should oppose Gingrich with thrice the intensity: Newt Gingrich is one of the principal abettors of the exploding health-care entitlement state we face today. Indeed, it’s not clear what would be worse for the cause of entitlement reform: Newt’s losing to Obama or Newt’s beating him.

Newt is just unlikeable, imo. We run Newt as our candidate, I’d expect Obama to get 60% of the women’s vote.

RE: I’ll have to vote for Romney over Newt if it comes down to it.

Talk about exposing oneself as an idiot.

I’m not really sold on Newt, but it is so much to watch the establishment types freak out over Newt.

The Establishment types are overjoyed that Gingrich has risen to be the alternative to Romney. They can hardly contain themselves. There are a few Establishment types who had previously sided with Romney or Perry, who are mildly criticizing him; but they are treating Newt with kid gloves and unlike the Cain for example, they have fully accepted him as front-runner and a legitimate nominee.

Gingrich is one of them.

Newt Gingrich is the poster child for Establishment politics. He is the ultimate insider. He helped build and is significantly responsible for our current, modern corrupt political system.

Newt is playing you, telling you what you want to hear without meaning it. Don't be stupid.

A vote for Newt Gigrich is a vote to perpetuate the corrupt political system that has ruined our economy, government and country.

That's what my wife says too, for precisely that reason. Also, Calista as first lady?

There are many of us who have followed Gingrich for a long, long time, who are totally against Romney, but who fully realize what Newt is all about.

He is not who or what you think he is. He is totally playing you.

Newt is corrupt and deserves all the bombs, missiles, flames and criticism we can throw at him.

Don't be fooled by him, especially if you are Tea Party member. Please, open your eyes.

Aren’t you one of the Paul fringers that attacked Palin, and then Cain, the two outside conservatives?

So, now we have a conservative that is not a true outsider, this is true. But, the Establishment hates him, you even heard them yelling at the Debate, when Newt zinged him.

LOL, no the GOP E does not like Gingrich, because he has vision and will set his own agenda, not that of the GOP E.

Actually, Newt was an early supporter of Medicare Advantage plans, a free market alternative to traditional Medicare.

Right, wasn't Newt slammed for saying his legislation would cause Medicare to "wither on the vine" as people switched from Government Healthcare to private advantage plans amd medical savings accounts? Lots of ignorant, deluded people running around these days forming opinions based on a single piece of anecdotal evidence cherry-picked from a guy who likes to brainstorm in public. Not real smart...

Shortly before the election the media will begin to leak details from Newt's new climate change book due out in 2013. (Which FReepers have declared to be a lie despite the admission from the co author)

At this pace, Maple said, his new book with Gingrich would probably be out in 2013, after the presidential election.

“Neither, thank you.”

Amen. Joining every liberal cause after quitting congress shows poor judgement. Finding individual mandate unconstitutional after 20 years pushing it (once running for president) is progress, but not convincing.

How I miss William Buckley. I have a feeling that he would set some of these Republicans straight on a few matters. I’d love to see him have a little chat with Lindsey Graham. ;-/

I choose Newt over Romney. Period.
