Internet piracy bill: A free speech 'kill switch'
The Hill.com ^ | 12-12-11 | Bill Wilson

Posted on 12/12/2011 1:03:33 PM PST by thouworm

What began as an attempt to restrain foreign piracy on the Internet has morphed into a domestic “kill switch” on First Amendment freedom in the fastest-growing corner of the marketplace of ideas.

Proposed federal legislation purporting to protect online intellectual property would also impose sweeping new government mandates on internet service providers – a positively Orwellian power grab that would permit the U.S. Justice Department to shut down any internet site it doesn’t like (and cut off its sources of income) on nothing more than a whim.

Things are just going to worse from here on in.

Do not have children.

Just pay your taxes and smile.

Along with the "Corporations Aren't People So They Have No First Amendment Rights" movement, we see how politicians are (a) very very bothered by the 1st Amendment, and (b) just itching to find a way to curtail it, to re-define it, to nitpick it out of existence.

They'll start with one sub-population, then move on to the next, in the usual way. "And then they came for me, and there was no one left to protest."

This particular effort is designed to make the "copyrights" clause more powerful than the First-Amendment, and particularly where corporate interests are running up against the exercise of rights by private individuals.

It's probably not at all fair, nor Constitutional, to put the FBI at the beck and call of private industry for private purposes.

Isn’t that the truth!

It’ll be so easy to shut down websites like Free Republic under this bill.

They're "fine" precisely as long as they can be compared to the TEA Party and cause trouble for nearby small businesses. Oh, and provide easy time-filler for dozens of cable "news networks."

Once they start being a nuisance to the elites in the Democrat party, out comes the pepper spray, the plastic handcuffs, and it's bye-bye Occupy.

They have already made the Copyrights Clause more powerful than the First Amendment.

When the Good Lord finally makes his return, Disney will still be eligible for another renewal on Mickey Mouse.

Crucifix in a jar of urine? Free Speech! Protected by the First Amendment! Don't you dare try to stop it!

Statue of the Virgin Mary desicrated by excrement? Free Speech! Protected by the First Amendment! Don't you dare try to stop it!

Internet free marketplace of ideas, available to anyone in milliseconds? We politicians need a kill switch!

>>>They will not leave quietly, if at all. <<<

Never in history did a Communist regime give an inch because of popular demand or citizens’ unrest.

They had to be kicked out through brutal force...they understand nothing else.

Beside Switzerland, we’re one of the two legally armed populations in the world. To disarm the population in this vast continent, the communications venues between Americans will necessarily have to be disrupted. Whether it’s an Internet kill switch is a given. You can figure out the rest including, martial law to squash the liberal violence!

So far, we’re waiting patiently for the ballot box. The Communists’ timeframe is the spring and summer of ‘12. They will evaluate their standing in the polls and decide if 0b0z0 will win “comfortably.”

Let me put it this way, they won’t lose peacefully.

See this great post by FReeper little jeremiah.
