I am looking at buying an entry level 1911 style .45. I have shot the Taurus and like it ok. This is not to be a primary defense weapon, just for fun mostly. I like Rugers but their 1911 isn’t appealing to me. Any thoughts on what might be a decent buy and what to stay away from?

Kimber isn’t “entry level” but it’s the best. IMHO

I bought Rock Islands but that was before Taurus started making 1911’s.
I have heard nothing but good revues of the Taurus 1911’s. They have a low price, they are well made and they have a lifetime transferable warranty.
If I was buying a budget 1911 now I think the Taurus would be at the top of my list to look at.

I don't have first hand knowledge, but if any place close to you has it, you might take a look at the Para GI Expert. I saw it in a sporting goods store ad in todays newspaper for $549.99.

Most all of the 1911 manufactures make a quality pistol nowadays.
I bought a Rock island Armory 1911 commander with a bull barrel for $350 I love that thing! I had to polish the feed ramp , but that thing works like a hose!

I would avoid old Llamas and AMT's

What’s not to like about the Ruger 1911, unless you just don’t like the stainless finish?

“I am looking at buying an entry level 1911...”
I thought the same...after a lot of searching and comparing I bought a Springfield XD 45 acp with 4” barrel. I love it. Would not now think of anything to replace it. Good for ccw and home defense. And my wife can handle effectively too.
