Obama Blocks The Biggest Shovel-Ready Project Ever

Jobs: The president says that extending unemployment benefits and the payroll tax cut will create more jobs than an oil pipeline from Canada. There are at least 20,000 members of the 99% who would disagree.

You can see why the economy is in trouble. Vice President Joe Biden, the stimulus sheriff, says he turned first to MF Global's Jon Corzine for economic advice and President Obama thinks 20,000 people getting extended unemployment benefits does more for the economy than 20,000 people getting paychecks to build the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada.

In the president's view, extending the payroll tax cuts is more important than adding more people to the payrolls, unless they are making electric cars that catch fire or work for solar-panel makers that go bankrupt.

Any attempt to link the pipeline to a payroll tax cut extension will be vetoed, Obama said Wednesday as he stood next to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

President Obama has dropped any pretense that delaying the pipeline that would bring Canadian tar-sands oil to American refineries is really related to environmental safety concerns.

He knows it would create jobs, at least 20,000 directly and many more indirectly thanks to the multiplier effect he dismisses now but touted when he still believed in "shovel-ready" jobs that needed federal funding.

"However many jobs might be generated by a Keystone pipeline," he said, "they're going to be a lot fewer than the jobs that are created by extending the payroll tax cut and extending unemployment insurance."

He forget the stimulus effect of food stamps, something touted by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Well we all know the Capitalist system always fails. Didn’t Barry just tell us that in his speech last week? Only the govt can create the right kind of jobs.

I think stretching a pipeline across the country is a bad idea, but the fact that environmental policies have led us to this point is the real crime here.

...let alone what is in the pipeline. Energy for industry, heating , personal consumption.... the ability to drive to work. Methinks that the pres wants America to be dependent on muslim oil.,,, and we have to fill their coffers forever.

If you’re looking for a recovery, Obama seems to consistently do the wrong thing at the worst time. However, if you’re looking for a Marxist revolution, O’s timing seems pretty good. Keep the “watermelons” happy and increase the pool of angry poor.

In this one remark, he reveals his total lack of commitment to the principles underlying the American miracle in liberty, opportunity, prosperity, and plenty--a Constitutional experiment which lasted for over 200 years and brought millions of oppressed persons from countries which practiced the old-World ideology to which he is committed.

Mr. Barack, can I suggest this is not an either or choice?

If all goes well, you could have BOTH the pipeline, AND a payroll tax cut extension.

One does not exclude the other.

Or, be man enough to say that you are beholden to enviro-extremists, and that’s why you put the pipeline in limbo.

Or, be man enough to say that you delayed a final decision till after the election for political reasons.

And then be man enough to accept the consequences, among which could be that Canada will move forward with their own plans, which could mean that we won’t have a chance next year to tell Canada that we are ready to move forward, because they will have moved on to another oil project on their own. You can’t just expect Canada to put themselves on hold for you, Mr. President.

Ok, let's suspend reality for a second and pretend that what the idiot in chief says is true. Then why does it have to be either or, why can't he do both, tax cuts for the 99%(Barf)and unemployment compensation PLUS the pipeline. That way we would have many job increases.

We know, of course, that unemployment increases will not create jobs, drawing the dole isn't a job, and we do know that the pipeline would create real jobs, jobs that would last for quite some time and create more jobs as the pipeline came online.

The POS in chief doesn't want jobs, he wants people dependent upon the government, he wants slaves to vote for him.

Why do you think that a cross-country pipeline is a bad idea? It would be built by the private sector, and investors believe that they would see a return on their capital. There are already over 2 million miles of pipelines in the U.S.A. Here's a map of just the existing major trunk lines (the Keystone XL pipeline would have been the latest one):

It's logical to assume that cutting deeper or eliminating the payroll tax completely will create more jobs than we can fill.

Let those on Social Security return to work as well when their checks stop coming.

Full employment!!

The other issue is that all this oil brought down to the Gulf....probably will be broke into half, with some staying in the US and the rest being sold overseas. This is the questionable part about this entire deal.

I would settle for that. Just send me the check for the 40 years of withholding 10 to 15% of my total wages paid into the SS fund by my employer and I.

It would be tax free since I paid taxes on my gross wages before SS taxes were withheld.

Be sure to add in the 6 to 20% interest compounded annually for the money I loaned the US Government.

With 0bama in office a dollar in hand is worth two of his promises in the bush.

In this area Diesel Fuel for 18 Wheelers is selling for 80 cents per gallon higher than gasoline. The normal spread has been about 15 cents per gallon.

Why the 65 cents per gallon higher price for Diesel Fuel today?

It is being exported to Europe, you and I are picking up the tab for higher fuel costs for all the "things" that 18 wheelers haul across the country.

The market determines what gets exported and what stays in the US.
