I am describing the designation of aircraft, not RADAR.

Don't confuse the poor fellow ... he thinks "R" means an aircraft (wrong), and "Q" means "an intelligence collection platform that sucks up intel DC to daylight" (also wrong).

Get that bit straight, then we can discuss the nutty designations used for avionics systems.
