This reminds me of an old story (but still a great one) about how the Israelis and the Palestinians were at the negotiating table, the Palestinians were making their usual absurd demands, and the lead Israeli negotiator said "quite frankly, we cannot trust you" and the Palestinian delegation began yelling and clamoring "WHY NOT?!?" and the Israeli negotiator said "it started hundreds and hundreds of years ago when Moses was leading our people to the Promised Land, our people had been in the wilderness for years, and came upon a small oasis with sparkling water, and Moses went to bathe himself and to enjoy that unexpected blessing, and while he was naked and in the water, some Palestinians decided to sneak up behind him where his clothes were hanging upon a bush, and they STOLE his clothes, STOLE them! THAT is why we cannot trust you!"

Yassir Arafat himself jumped up and shouted "THAT is a LIE! There WERE no Palestinians back then!"

The Israeli neogiator smiled and said "thank you for making my point for me, now about these demands for land you are making ....?"

If the Palis were smart, they’d have continued calling themselves “Amalekites” as some of them did some years ago.

Demonstrating a historical connection might have been tough but at least the name would give them some reason to claim a presence in The Promised Land during Moses’ time.
