Why does any city need a cultural affairs officer?

Shouldn't the mayors be handling that job?

In Animal Farm, IIRC, the pigs ate a greater share of the better foods because their brain work required it.

Don’t begrudge your betters their spoils, or rather their fair share, citizens!

Jon Ralston is a left-wing hack that writes for the liberal LV Sun. Guess he is not getting what he feels is his share of the government largesse.

The government people know the day is coming. They are reqarding their employees now to stick with them, to keep them in power, to vote for them, to be on their side if stuff goes down. Government employees are the new welfare class.

It is so true. They bitch and moan when they actually have to pay for their healthcare and have some of their pre-tax salaries put into their own pensions that are still 95% funded by us average serfs.

Compare the description:

Welfare recipients:

- dependent on government redistributing taxpayer-confiscated money for the money they live off of

- will vote almost exclusively for the people that promise no cuts/more benefits to THEM

- government politicians’ focus is always on this group, never on taxpayers who enable the politicians’ generosity

- politicians care more about getting along with them than the vast amjority of people that don’t get these benefits and pay for these benefits out of their own pockets

- live very well off the money of others, but are told by politicians and others things are so bad for them and that they deserve more because they are so put upon and have so little - even though when you see what they have they are living middle class lives compared to Europe - ie the richest poor in the world

Now substitute “government employees” for “welfare recipient” and the statements remain true. They are synonymous terms today.

That’s what the politicians are hoping for. They have convinced govt employees via their unions they are also “put upon” and are in worse shape than the average citizen and any scalebacks will just literally “kill them” and “they don’t know how they’re going to make it”. When in fact on average they make more than the average citizen.

But they are shoring up their armies. The have nots (welfare folks) and the sainted govt workers (who are underpaid and do such hard work) want to keep the status quo gravy train going. That’s what the raises are about. Securing that loyalty. When the SHTF they want these people as a buffer between themselves and the people that want to hold them responsible.
