In Washington DC, the bridges from Virginia were closed.

Machine gun nests were put on top of all the Federal buildings.

Armed guards, Navy and Marine, with M1 carbines and bayonets affixed, were at the entrance to every Federal building.

Machine gun nests were put on Memorial Bridge, right at the entrance of the Lincoln Memorial

Gates to the White House were closed and never reopened.

Members of Congress were issued ID cards for the first time in history.
