Yes, they took the Republican majority for the first time in 40 years, reduced the deficit, cut taxes, balanced the federal budget, blocked HillaryCare, reformed welfare, fought Clinton tooth and nail and encouraged the Reagan economy to soar. Not a bad conservative record at all. We could use some of this today!

Of course, yes, he did testify AGAINST cap and trade the same day Algore testified for it. And he absolutely shredded Pigman Waxman when he did it....
But he sat on that couch!! Doesn’t that permanently disqualify him for anything but obliquy, venom and curses? I just don’t understand!

It was a good Congress. Unfortunately, it fizzled. And, fizzled due to poor leadership. And, lack of a good standard bearer in the 1996 election cycle.
Newt was definitely good - momentarily.
What about his whole record of 40 years? Not just those 4 years.
