President Barack Obama joined Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper Wednesday to announce the details of two new initiatives designed to improve safety and streamline trade and commerce between the United States and its largest trading partner.
Were agreeing to a series of concrete steps to bring our economies even closer and to ensure the security of our citizens, Obama said. Put simply, were going to make it easier to conduct the trade and travel that creates jobs and were going to make it harder for those who would do us harm and threaten our security.

Details of the pact include more tracking of cross-border travelers and better monitoring of cargo crossing the border. The second initiative the administration announced is a reduction in the number of regulations between the two countries affecting sectors like the auto industry, agriculture and health care.
