Newt better hope for a landslide GOP gain in the Senate to reach the 60 votes needed to prevent conservative nominees, like Bolton, from being filibustered.

President’s are allowed to chose their Secretary of State. For the Congress (which will be Republican in 2012) to oppose the Bolton nomination would create a constitutional crisis from the git-go.

Perhaps that can be part of the coattail campaign strategy.
