Obama’s Kansas speech: some suspect facts (Three Pinocchios rating)
Washington Post ^ | 12/06/2011 | Glenn Kessler

Channeling his inner Teddy Roosevelt, President Obama on Tuesday gave a feisty speech in Osawatomie, Kansas that sought to rebut Republican arguments that he is waging class warfare...[Snip]

We’ll leave the politics to others, but how accurate were some of his facts?

“I mean, understand, it's not as if we haven't tried this theory. Remember in those years, in 2001 and 2003, Congress passed two of the most expensive tax cuts for the wealthy in history. And what did they get us? The slowest job growth in half a century...[Snip]

Inserting the words “for the wealthy” was interesting phrasing by the president, since he suggests these tax cuts were intended to only benefit the rich.

[Snip]

But the 2001 tax cuts also included tax changes that benefited the middle class, such as a reduced marriage penalty and expanded tax credits...

[Snip]

Obama’s claim of the “slowest job growth,” in fact, includes the loss of jobs under his administration. The White House provided as evidence a report on a New York Times blog...

[Snip]

But, since the recession ended, job growth as been even more anemic under Obama—just 40,500 jobs a month...

[Snip]

...it seems odd to keep blaming poor job growth on the Bush tax cut, especially because Obama himself pushed through a nearly $1-trillion stimulus and took other actions that have affected the economy...[Snip]

Finally, Obama blames the Bush tax cuts for “massive deficits.”...[Snip]

The data showed that the biggest contributor to the disappearance of projected surpluses was increased spending, which accounted for 36.5 percent of the...

[Snip]

“Some billionaires have a tax rate as low as 1 percent -- 1 percent. That is the height of unfairness.”

[Snip]

An administration official conceded the White House had no actual data to back up the president’s assertion...

The one item you can never find in Obama’s speeches is facts.

“What, Brownback passed up a chance to be publicly taunted or insulted by The One? Maybe he has heard about how Obama has treated Republicans invited to other events.”

Brownback stated that he had a long standing commitment at Wichita State University :)

The WH only notified the media of the visit 3 days prior to the trip...no telling if he gave Brownback any more notice....probably didn’t.

I readily admit that the Dem Governor (Sebelius) was present whenver Bush came to the state...but there is a big difference: Obama has no class. And, Brownback decided not to sit and take it, SCOTUS style, while the POS POTUS slandered him.

Now, Bammy tried to put a bright light on Brownback’s absence, by parading with Sebelius...real class act, both of them.
