I'm sure as you wrote, you also had in mind that daddy and the Mrs. will come up with some clever and deceiving half ass excuse that daddy was somehow deceived into running. I actually do feel bad for the two girls and the dog. I assume they have not yet ditched the dog on some lonely remote road.

I assume they have not yet ditched the dog on some lonely remote road. They haven't. The dammed dog is a prominent part of the Christmas decorations in every room of the White House.
