Unfortuntely, Mayer was no better. While not a pedaphile, he certainly started Judy Garland onto the road of total self-destruction by forcing her on diet pills, uppers and downers to keep her working. This was during the Wizard of Oz days.

There was another saying from back in those days. Folks in Hollywood would say that their careers were secure unless they were found with “a dead girl or a live boy.” The implication is that a fair number of actors were less than stellar morally.
