On the Courthouse lawn?!?!?!?!?!??!

Unbelievable. Not civilized. Good for that mother for tearing it down. It deserves to be torn down. Would think the people of Va would have better sense.......oh wait, Tim Kaine was their governor. What ever has happened to Va?

So “hate speech” is protected when it is against Christians? What do you suppose would happen if it was Mohammed in a display like that? The churches in the area need to get together and sue the county for religious discrimination.

So, the crucified Santa is OK for the courthouse, then conversely, why are the 10 Commandments displayed at courthouses and other city buildings in hot dispute? Shouldn’t those be deemed freedom of speech/expression as well?

I say that in this case, put the freedom of speech/expression to the test....set up a nativity scene right next to the crucified Santa and see what happens.

Hmmm.

I take a Christian message from the display.

Christmas is about Christ and the reason he was born was to be crucified for our transgressions.

I’m surprised that such a Christian statement would be allowed in the first place

Here's a TV report from WUSA Channel 9 news. Notice how NOT angry the 'angry resident' is as she calmly places the 'torn down' santa costume on the ground.

A crucified Santa is freedom of speech but a crucified Jesus is offensive.

Leesburg went through a fight over a manger, and it was decided that a manger was OK if it was part of a set of displays. So they have 10 displays on a first-come, first-served basis.

I don’t see a problem with a crucified Santa skeleton, from a messaging perspective. Santa isn’t christmas for me, and you can’t destroy my Christ.

However, I totally support the woman tearing down the thing just because it WOULD be traumatic for children. It was stupid to allow a decidedly non-PG image like that on public property where children would be expected to see it.

Now, I never had my kids believing in Santa Claus. But many others do, and to take a kid who believes in Santa Claus, and show him as a skeleton being brutally tortured, is just wrong.
