We are broke because we spend too much on entitlements and vote buying schemes, not because of the military. The percentage of money allocated to the military is already shrinking. What you are advocating is throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Cut everything else, but don't hurt our defensive capabilities.

Very True.

Unfortunately even the military is going to be cut because of our economic problems. Military power is based on economic power and our economic power has been declining for years. I wish this was not true.
